Diddlers roof is original.
There was a Lachs silver 4dr C2 2.7 on here not so long ago that had a new roof skin.

A friend of mine had a new roof fitted to his 4 door. £1,700 with paint, and it is a perfect job. That excludes the cost of the roof. I'd be surprised if anybody will do a proper job for less than £1k sadly - not a cheap area to fix!

The least you'll need to do is remove the headlining, remove the sunroof cassette and clean up the rust- guaranteed it'll be pretty horrific. Attacking it with a wire brush in a grinder before painting with Kurust will hold it back for a while.

This, I recently broke a moredoor with a few bubbles in the roof, when I peeled back part of the head lining, it was as though someone had emptied a box of cornflakes at the top of the B pillars.Andyboy wrote:The least you'll need to do is remove the headlining, remove the sunroof cassette and clean up the rust- guaranteed it'll be pretty horrific. £400 for the roofskin (back in 2007!) and that was heavily discounted. £1000 labour / paint etc.
Its because the drainage channels get blocked with crap and back up with moisture / water and it sits there. You only know when you get bubbles on the paint.
Prevent it by blowing out the channels every 6 months with an airline.
Mine is now waxoiled and seamsealed up to the max.
A great time to do a solid roof conversion or fir power sunroof etc.

Roof rot only really effects E30's with sunroofs.Royalratch wrote:Its because the drainage channels get blocked with crap and back up with moisture / water and it sits there. You only know when you get bubbles on the paint.

The common cause isnt so much the drains blocking, its the lack of protection in the area where the sun roof tray is bonded to the roof skin.
Water gets past the sunroof seal and flows through the tray and out of the drains. Moisture still lingers here and gets between the tray and skin.
