Hi my fellow zoners, I bought and replaced my stock panel filter in my 1990 316i manual e30 5 door with a K&N one. Apart from sounding nice, I dont think its gave me much gain in performance. I also think she does'nt warm up very much either since fitting it. So this morning I put the original filter back in and I dont know if it was because it was cold, but it felt little more repsonsive. I know she may need a service shortly and I also know that the 316i is renowned to be quite slow. Any advice whether I should put the the K&N back in? Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Performance wise, there will be absolutely no discernible difference between them at all. The main difference is that just one actually filters the air properly.

So does the K&N air filter not filter the air properly then? So is there no need for me to put it back in?

No

BMW paper filter is the most effective filter. K&N may sound better but is less effective at filtering
