hi all, can anybody tell me if a 316 e36 steering rack has less of a lock to lock than the e30 rack and is it worth doing the conversion, i have a 316 e36 rack already, ive read the article on the conversion and i am willing to give it ago but the article is for the e36 m3 rack

thanks for any help on this

Im fairly sure all the E36 racks are the same and have 3.4 turns lock to lock, except the 3.0ltr M3 which has 3.2 turns - comfirmed by part numbers on the ETK.

The rack you have should fit exactly the same as in the tech article.

Well 3.4 turns lock to lock is an improvement over the E30s 4 day lock to lock!!

I think most people would of used the 3.4 turn rack as they are the most common - the M3 Evo uses the same rack as all the other E36s. Its only the M3 3.0ltr that is different (3.2 turns) so wont be so easy to get hold of one.

You are joking...

I appreciate that 3.4 turns lock to lock does not sound a great deal less than 4 turns, but on the road it makes a huge difference.
