My car was reversed into in a car park by a rental car.
Done minor damage to mine ie dent in front wing, paint scuffed on bumper, bumper trim scraped, grill cracked and headlight wobbles so probably adjuster broke.
Guy driving the rental was a employee of the rental company and admitted fault straightaway.
Swapped details etc and other driver explains someone from his company will phone later that day.
Get call later that day from the rental companys insurers asking brief details of what happened and extent of damage etc. They offered a replacement car if muine was undrivable so told them mine was still drivable and declined the hire car.
She then explained they use there own network of repair centres and would pass my details onto whoever gets chosen to arrange a time for them to come and collect my car and take away for assesment and repair.
Im expecting them ringing tomorrow as this all happened on Friday.
Now I have a few concerns...

The wing that got damaged was already damaged where the mudflap would usually be.
The new damage is at the front edge of the wing next to the headlight.
Are they still obliged to replace the wing even though it was already fooked?

Im not particulary happy with the car being taken away to be assesed. Can I refuse this and choose who and where I decide to take it?

Can I insist on only OEM parts being used?
Dont want a shitty aftermarket poorly fitting wing being fitted!

Lastly being Red I just know the colour difference is going to be shite if they just paint the wing and bumper....what do I do then?(or before?).

Yes!..you can refuse the car to be taken away, but they will drag thier feet giving you a replacment vehicle and also you can insist on oem parts...

Tbh,it might write it off,but at least you get paid out and can buy it back for a small amount and fix it yrself!

With the insurer not being your own can the write it off though? I would call lee tomorrow morning via his website and get sound advice before agreeing to anything.

Might be worth seeing if you can source your own good secondhand wing. Even new ones from BMW aren't brilliant any more, they're BMW approved parts, but don't fit as well as genuine original BMW ones do :(

Got phonecall today from `Nationwide Accident Repair Centre` today requesting a good time for them to collect the car.
Told them I wasnt happy with them taking it so they said they would send someone out to my home address and would get back to me.
Hour later get another call to say no assessors working in my area for the ext few days but they have a driver with a camera in my area who will call in.
He turned up later this afternoon with a camera as expected.
Took pics of mileage, tax disc,VIN plate then took few pics of the car showing it from different angles including interior.
He then took pics of the damage from couple of different angles.
When he was about to leave I said to him will an assessor still come and see it.
His answer was no he will view the pics taken and phone me with his conclusion.
Cant see how they can assess it properly by a few pics, doesnt show the wobbly headlight for a start!
Hpefully get a phonecall tomorrow so ill see what develops.

BMW replacement wings have been pressed on the original tooling, but this is now well worn and as stated above the fit is no better than a cheapo pattern part, but a decent bodyman should be able to adjust the BMW wing to fit properly, given time.

Panel gaps can be sorted but they don't fit the grill very well.

If you are expecting a huge national company like this to bend over backwards to your needs on this I fear you'll be disappointed. They will see this as minimal damage of an old car worth f*ck all I'm afraid (a car o which the panel in question was already damaged).

I reckon, they will either offer a repair via themselves or you are on your Jack Jones. However, if they did repair the car I'd expect genuine parts to be fitted just as they would be expected to fit genuine parts on a 2011 e90.

And to be honest, if the panel was already damaged and they fitted a genuine new one, then you would be vastly better off than before surely? Even if the paint didn't match, you've still had a new genuine panel out of it and you'd have had to have dealt with the other damage and paint eventually in any case?

If I were you and that worried I'd be moving towards a cash settlement of enough money to allow you to source a mint wing and have the side painted to your expectations.

As for BMW panels not fitting Malc? We are not talking some 1966 BMC scrap here. I've yet to see a poorly fitting new BMW panel. Remember the 2002 Munich repaired?

I've first hand experience of a new BMW wing about 7 years ago. Not much better than a pattern part and a noticeable difference in the original wing. It was a BMW approved part and bought from Sytners Leicester and had to wait about a month for the privilege.

For the 2002 they perhaps still had original parts in stock rather than remanufactured

I was under the impression BMW are selling panels made by other companies under the 'BMW Approved' banner? If so then they should be expected to be a crap fit, id rather have a second hand panel than use the BMW parts counter as a middle man.

Id do as Trev says Tony, try for a cash settlement and have it sorted yourself by someone you trust. An accident repair centre will just want your E30 through as quick as possible, you wont get much attention to detail

If thats the case then no wonder they have problems fitting them!

As Dan says, second hand panel all day long. And there are loads of rot free wings out there.

Got a call from the assesor today.
Total loss in his opinion which I kind of expected.
Id prefer a cash settlement anyway which looks like could be the case.
just waiting to see what they offer now.

Perhaps you should have a look at the 316i that Steve Bostock had a genuine BMW front wing fitted to last summer...... :D

Yeah, get it wrapped up for a cash in-lieu settlement Tony.

Cash in-lieu of repairs usually operates by taking the total cost of repairs including VAT and then just paying the amount, without any VAT. This only works if the repairs are less than the write off value though.

Maybe worth getting your own repair estimate done (not at BMW) and then seeing what the repair costs (making sure they list the parts prices on the estimate) so you know the full story. Then use that as the basis for your cash in-lieu deal.

Suppose it's just a case of waiting for them to come back to you and see if they low ball you or if they are sensible.

I would guestimate a real world value of your touring is about £3k, so if repairs can be contained below the £2k mark then you should be alright. They will value your car at about £800 though, so they need educating on that front.

I got two new wings from BMW this year. The fit isn't bad IMO. Just needs someone with a keen eye to line it and the doors up.

I understand that Lee is currently being dry fingered up the Khyber Pass in advance of some surgery. Doctors think it'll take at least three weeks to get the smile off his face.... winkeye

Offered £864 and odd pence as cash in lieu pay off.
I told them my main concern is the paint is never going to match again leaving me with a multicoloured car.
Told them id visited 2 other bodyshops....said the first refused to do an estimate because they know it will never be repaired due to age and the 2nd wanted to charge me for the quote as its unlikely it would be repaired.
They said they will get back to me today!

Mick, dont suppose you have a phone number for Alpina99?
Sent him a couple of PMs but still in outbox so assume he doesnt get on here much?
