HI everyone Im Dan I have been reading up on some of the build threads people have going here on the zone and I thought that I should start one to, so here goes....

So it all started when i won an auction on Trademe last December for a 1984 320i Mspec for a total of $310NZD, so the next weekend Dad and I got the car trailer from the local garage and headed up to Christchurch to pick my new car.

Never seen one strapped down like that to a trailer.

Welcome to the money pit.

So the guy I got the car from had striped down the engine and removed the gearbox to replace the piston rings as the old girl was smoking bad, after I had good look at the car I found that it was in fact the valves that were gone and not the rings, so he removed the crank and pistons for no reason lol. The next day I decided to completely strip the car and drop in a new engine and manual box.

I was now on the look out for a new engine and after watching on Trademe for a week I found a listing for a manual 1987 4dr 320i with 230Ks on the clock that the seller was wanting $1000NZD for, the car had a broken shifter linkage and the rego was on hold so after receiving some photos of a nice looking engine (as seen below) I decided to offer the seller $800NZD, so the next weekend my brother and I left for Christchurch to pick my second e30.
I was happy with the car as it seemed in good condition, anyway we were in a rush to leave as the seller was standing over us so we only strapped the car down quickly and left planing to strap it down properly at the petrol station on the way out of town, but as luck would have it a car pulled out in front of me and when I stood on the brakes the e30s front wheels fell of the front of the trailer, luckly there was no damage, lesson learned.

Here is how it looked when I got it home, after making a makeshift shifter linkage and taking it for a drive I decided to take it for a wof and get it registered the following monday. Also there was almost no rust in the car at all :D not like a lot of the e30s over there in the UK
