Ok, so I re-greased the wiper motor today as recommended here (thanks) but when I started the car later today the over head oil check light came on. I immediately stopped the engine and check the oil. It was a little low but still between the dip stick marks. I topped up and wait and re-checked the oil, now about 3/4's on the dip stick. When I started the car again the over head oil check light came on again. There are no apparent oil leaks so I took it for quick spin and it runs as normal.
Anybody got any suggestions as to why the check light won't go out?
Thanks (again) Rich

It's the black or dark brown blob coming out of the sump. A thick silicone cable sheath.
I'm having a similar problem with the washer fluid warning light. Plenty of fluid and float switch is working fine. Anybody any ideas?

The sensor is bolted into the sump in the bulge on the passengers side under the power steering pump, the electrical connector is bolted to the power steering pump/alternator bracket.uberdrah wrote:I would do if i knew which sensor it was, can someone point me in the right direction?

Purely oil quantity.uberdrah wrote:no joy checking the sensor, could anyone tell me if it the check light comes on with a drop in oil pressure or a drop in oil quantity?

I had the light come on whilst driving my 320i and topped it up (it was nearly on the minimum) and it took best part of a day to settle and go off.

Oil level sensors get well gunged up inside. They need taking out and sitting in a jar of paraffin for a week, periodically taking it out, draining it and putting it back in again.
