I was going to say that earlier actually...

You have to remember, people look at their E30's differently to others. Where as most can look at them and know they're festering turds, others think differently and that little bubble on the rear arch just needs sorting and its mint...

I'd say a list of definitions and meanings would help but thats going to the extreme.

Maybe the more it developes, the more you can add... Maybe a points systems of some sort in terms of bodywork, going over the whole bod, marking it up and down for dinks, scratches and rust.

Everyone needs to remember, if they're car comes back as £1000 more than what they paid, that doesnt mean its worth that much.

Personally I would remove the sound system part as every other brothers car on here has a sick sound system. When I look to buy a car, thats what actually marks it down in value.

Going off that guide my car came to a value of £2100. Not too bad seeing as I only payed £1400 for it 2 months ago! Red 325i Cab :)

 Again, just because the guide says its worth xxx amount, doesnt mean it is worth that. Its a guide price that is early in the making and the majority of people saying they are in profit, I can happily say if I was to go by the guide, looking at your cars, it would come in at a lower figure :D

One very basic flaw throughout,BMW produced 2 door saloons and more door saloons, they only produced coupes from E36 on!

If we cannot get the bloody wiki right, how the 'ell do we convince the great unwashed? :D

Listen, this a bloody good effort. Yes, it needs to be refined and tweaked, but I don't see anybody else trying to address this perennial problem.

I say well done, well bloody done.

I've taken the comments into account, and have replaced "Mint" with "Concourse" so that there'll be no confusion.

But to get it running right, I do need to see people's "working out" - what options you've ticked to see your final value. And remember, I'm not in the UK so I'm not as close to the real value of these turds as many of you, but I'm fairly sure even a concourse 318i touring shouldn't have a value over 2000 quid. So the more examples you lot provide, the better the Wiki will get.

And daimlerman, sorry :o:

You asked to see working out, so here goes:

Base price £200
316i - add £300
2-door - add £200
Rust - always get under the car with the MOT inspector to check - had the boot carpets out last weekend to check inner arches - only rust I can find is bottom of one front wing behind mudflap - deduct £150
Equipment - it's a Lux, so front fogs, leccy windows, leather steering wheel & gear knob, rear headrests and heckspoiler - so I'm adding £300
Wheels - 14" BBS - no gain/no loss
Suspension - had new shock all round, beam bushes and lollypop bushes in last 2 years - add £100
Mileage - 138,000 - no gain/no loss
Stereo - bog standard Pioneer radio/CD - cost me two pints!
5 months MOT and taxed it 3 weeks ago - £220
Overall condition - paintwork shiny but the odd stone chip, lacquer the size of 50p missing from from wing/unkerbed wheels with matching tyres 6mm all round/interior good but small piece of piping missing from drivers seat/clean carpets/full BMWSH until I bought it and a whole ream of receipts since - I think that warrants 'Good' - no loss/no gain

I make that £1,170. A bit higher than I was expecting, but then I could be out of touch.

Keep up the good work Grrrmachine.

Thanks for that greg, that works out very useful and you've followed it all well. It might well be that the LUX doesn't really warrant 300 quid which is why your value is a bit high, but it should be worth something, so I'll see what I can do about that.

I also checked the system against five cars in the For Sale section, and it gets to within 100 pounds of their asking prices, so it seems like it's working better than at the start of this thread.

Do you think it comes out a bit high? I don't know, maybe my expectations were low.

My reasoning for putting £300 on the Lux pack, is that it includes 2 of the items in the options list (leccy windows & front fogs) so with 2 out of 3 that's £200, plus (with a wet finger in the air) another £100 for leather s/wheel & rear headrests & heckspoiler sounded reasonable to me.

But I could well be wrong. I'm not even sure which of these are part of the Lux pack and which were seperate options, I just know my car is a Lux and it's got 'em :)

- Edit - having had a root around the Wiki, now I do. And it appears that my leccy sunroof may have been an optional extra.

I'm really impressed by this. For such a simple methodology, it's proving surprisingly accurate. With a bit of tweaking/fine tuning it should prove pretty good..

this is an impossible task,
they are all 20+ years old at least 99% have issues, most are worth double in bits...

guide price for an E30 is £100- 40k ? at the same time there seems to be a rapid decline in values, they simply aren't selling :(

E30's had started to go up in value just before the recession kicked in, 5 years later there's not much light at the endd of the tunnel. Given the price of petrol's, old money pit cars just aren't viable for so many people right now. So many are falling by the wayside that I doubt there'll be enough left for a 'scene' when people's finances recover.
