Gearbox Seal Question - Getrag 260/6

hi guys, currently replacing the output shaft seal on my getrag 260/6 (535i e34), after breaking the foot off trying to replace it, it had to be tipped upside down to be welded.
the gearbox then leaked from this one location:

the leak was coming from the plate 'A' which sits over the top of the 3 springs. now, after having removed it, cleaning it then re-installing, i noticed the plate does not sit flush with the gearbox. there's no sign of a gasket ever being there, so should it have one? or does it not matter and wont leak when upright in the car?

any help would be appreciated! thanks :)


oh, and the reason the output shaft seal was leaking was due to rubber insulation closing the vent on top of the gearbox in my e30. this has since been removed.
