Ive got a magnetic base, search lamp thing here got delivered today, but no bulb, says its H3 bulb , h3 bulb search on ebay brings up 29000 results and a baffling array of types
anyone got any idea what the best/brightest would be for the job ?
its one of these, they say they can include a 12v or 24v h3 bulb... what do i need a 12v ? (if its running off the cig lighter) or can you also use a 24 ? and if so does that mean its brighter ?

tbh it doesnt say anything, no paper work and a bog standard type box , would a 100w bulb use a lot more power then ?

55W is more than enough light, and a considerable load to run from a car battery for any length of time without the engine running. A 100W bulb (if genuine - I've seen a few that aren't) will consume nearly twice as much power.
TBH, for what this costs, there are better light sources around, such as HF fluorescent or LED, which will consume much less battery power and be just as bright.

thanks brian
so- can i get an led bulb, to fit H3 ? would that be better and brighter ? its a magnetic search/work lamp that il keep in my range rover in the boot, to just plug in the cig lighter if ever needed, and will hardly be used at all or just when camping or out in the middle of no where etc, so want the best brightest bulb i can get, cant see it ever being used for prolonged periods and more than likley will just stay in the boot used once in a blue moon
