I've just bought myself an e30 this afternoon, a 4 door 318i auto and I've been looking at quotes from Lancaster Insurance recently.

I'm 21, 1 year NCB, Pass Plus, licence for over 3 years, no convictions in my entire life and no claims.

I've input all the correct details, and have received their "OPTION 1: guaranteed price" quote for £1,650.
I'm happy with this price, however when I called up they said for some reason they were unable to insure me and they weren't sure why as their system doesn't show the reason.

Can I use the pay online option and go through with the policy online by making the payment via direct debit and doing it through the internet. I have this option.

Can anyone who is with Lancaster insurance help me out and let me know whether going ahead with the policy, agreeing with all the terms and conditions and making a payment online mean I can take it out online like they do on price comparison websites?

Thanks guys

I'm young so I'm willing to pay the premium of being young but what I want to know is, when i call them up, they can't provide a quote....however online with the same details it's all fine and gives me the option to take out the quote online by making a payment via debit card.

It lets me proceed right the way through to the debit card payment page, AFTER inputting all the details and agreeing to the terms and conditions.

Has any zoner taken out a policy purely online without calling them over the telephone?

I have on all my policies with them, Ive had 4 or so with them too... If you take it out online, and it goes through, you are covered. If they're is an issue after this then they would call you and say.

I took a policy out with SureTerm last year for my chromie and they called up 10 minutes later and said the policy wont go ahead because they thought I would be using it as a daily main car. IThey couldnt get round the idea that at the time, someone was picking me up for work and I used the missus car in the evening if I needed to pop out so they decided to cancel it

I'd take the policy out online if your happy with the price, although I would keep shopping around a bit first as that seems expensive still for a classic policy!

So that's what the issue may have been.
When asked whether I have access to any other vehicles I said no, this is my only car...

If I put myself down as being insured on another car, and subsequently using the E30 as a secondary weekend car which it will be, will they require proof of insurance on another car such as a cover note from the insurers of the main car?

Do they not ask for that?

Cheers

So they won't ask to see the "main car" policy details and/or cover note?
I'll be using the e30 as a weekend car.

I'm really fed up with insurance because I bought a car today, checked it, tested it, went over the details, and finally sealed the deal with the gentleman and then handed over the cash and deal sorted.

I told him I was going to ring the insurance company up while he got the paperwork ready, got an quote earlier on in the day, checked the details I entered 10 times to make sure everything was spot on , and was happy to pay near enough £1,700.

Called them up and the rude guy on the phone was obviously nearly finishing his shift and bluntly said no.

Stranded many miles away from home, having paid £150 for a taxi there, had to fork out another £140 on a taxi to get my dad over. I then managed to get him insured on the vehicle making it all legal and safe for us to drive the car home.

£290 taxi fares lighter, 4 hours wasted time, stress and worry later we arrived home in a 4 pot wrongness moredoor fitted with a surprisingly nice spazbox!

my range rover is with lancaster as my 2nd car, they have never asked for proof , although maybe they can check dvla or an insurance database to just see that you are ?

when you ring them up, would that go as "being refused insurance" ? and if you got insured with themk after them saying no, they may just refund or void it ? personly if it were me, havign already phoned them and they saying no, to just do it online-id be wary of that

They couldn't even insure my dad on the car so he could drive the car home. He's self employed,15 years ncb, own another car and they couldn't qoute him.

When I asked why..........I'm afraid our insurers don't classify this as a classic car so that's reason why.

The E30's not a classic car? That's the first time I heard that!
I think it's bollox, it was 5pm, they were rather rude and sounded like they were in a hurry and couldn't give a toss about the customer.
I'll go ahead online, correct details, correct everything and just pay upfront. I don't see why they would cancel it.

It's not my main car, it's garaged, I've never even had a single parking ticket in my life let alone a claim, I drive a 106 as the main car, got NCB, pass plus, clean licence. Why do I get 12k quotes everywhere I go even as a 3rd driver!?
Yet these insurers insure a guy I know who had 5 accidents in one year, on an S3 for £900?!

I've tried all the comparison sites, and a few young driver sites, my local brokers in the high street, modified car sites, sureterm and a few others....but to no avail unfortunately.

I'm just going to bite the bullet and pay it upfront and see what happens.

I'm really upset, I've bought a car and I can't get insured because they think that other poxy 17 year old who've just passed thier test are less of a risk than me. :( :( :( :(

if its not your main car, and is a garaged 2nd car...why the f**k are you paying 1600 to insure it 8O 8O

get a classic policy, ring round and do some blagging, carol nash and pete best would be good ones to call, some you have to be 25 min 3 years, but i was over that but only 6 months of driving and i managed to get classic with carol nash as it was a 2nd car

are you sure the cars 100% legit ? something doesnt sound right

I'm only 21 so I'm not expecting a cheap price at my age, such as a quote of £400, that would be highly unlikely.
I admit at 21 a driver is not really experienced, so i'm actually quite happy to pay 1600 to insure it given the situation lol.

The cars legit, I bought it yesterday, taxed and tested.
nice 4 door 318i auto, nice little car that does need some work doing to it which i'll look forward to getting done soon.
V5 all present and genuine owner. Not a back alley deal or anything.

Anyway, I've gone ahead and gone through with the policy online in my own name, all correct details.
Payed online and should be starting to cover me in about 1 hour, which means for the first time in my entire life, I'd be driving an e30 on the public roads.

It's just a waiting game.

How long do they take to send through the policy documents through the post?

Cheers

£1600 sounds a lot for a weekend car.

I insured my 316 chromie with a whole list of mods today for £1045. 21, 2 years NCB, 4 years driving, no claims or convictions, 7500 mile limited policy. More than I paid before mods but oh well.

Try Sky, Brentacre, Adrian Flux, Graham Sykes etc etc. Even try admiral if you're going to keep it standard.

1700 is still a bit much don't you think for a 20 year old 1.8 auto car?

Im only 22 and a musician probably the worst combo and my insurance is 1200 on a 2.2 e46 and 600 on my iS.

Thats not even through classic or these random companies its through admiral i believe.

To me £1500 is like the deal of a lifetime. I'm so used to seeing figures of 12k, 6k, and even 4k as a 3rd driver on a 0.9L nissan micra.

I don't know why. It's not even the area.
My neighbours daughter just passed, 17 years old and got a quote of 1100 fully comp.

Go figure...

Yeah its strange, must be something.

I got some ludicrous quotes online when i was thinking of getting an rx8, tt mk1 before the 46. Glad i saw the light haha.

Its worth a ring a round because if you can knock off a few hundred quid its worth the hassle!

Its normally the case of getting good online quotes then you ring and then underwrite you to shite and the quote triples!

..it's worth trying to get a quote with 'parked on the street', rather than garaged, even if you plan to garage it. Did this on a couple of cars and it was hundreds of pounds cheaper for some bizarre reason

I'm also 21 and paying £1600 for an m20 converted 318 as my only car.
It took alot of phoning around to get that price but I can't see how a standard 1.8 auto could be just as much?! :?
