Hi was wondering roughly how much a full exterior respray would cost on a mauritius metallic blue convertible? Am I right in thinking roughly £1000?

Is there anyone that's had a full respray recently that can recommend anyone, or maybe there's someone on the forum?

Not in a massive rush, but looking to do this in the next month or so.

Cheers

For £1000 you're goind to need to do a lot of work yourself and that includes some if not all of the prep, so you're going to have to find a painter who is going to trust what you do - many won't as its not worth their while you taking it back after a few months complaining about paint reactions caused by shoddy prep work.

Even if you can do most the the dismantling and reassembly I think you need to double your budget for a good job.

My painter would be closer to £2k but he's an awesome painter.

I wouldn't expect a decent job for 1k personally

ive seen good resprays for £350

They can range from £300 - £3000

Depending what you want, i got my touring resprayed windows down for £500 by someone who did it on a weekend in his mates unit to earn a bit of extra cash.

From work ive seen done i dont think i would be paying more than a bag for a respray, however in the north we are peasants :D

However if its welding and respray its a different matter, alot more time consuming.

I've seen cheap re paints. I've also seen the filler sinkage, the D.A. and rubbing down marks, the dust, dry spots, runs and dryness

They all go hand in hand

I would say around £1000 is a good starting point for a quality respray on a convertible (which should be cheaper, seeing as there's no roof to paint).

thing is with "cheap" paint work, is in some cases it may look ok straight off and for a few months, but a year later thats when issues arrise

as above 2 grand is more like it, them jobs that a full re spray is done in a lock up in a weekend for 500-1000 price, theres no real proper prep time and quality, im jujst having my car re sprayed, hes also done jims cabby from here and turks m3 - for instance when he does the primer, he then leaves the car a week or 2 to settle in properly , and real quality control to ensure a proper flawless job, sort of quality that cant be achieved in a full in out re spray job over a weekend

ive had bits of paint (not a full re spray) done before, in 2 cases there were issues a bit later on and you realise cheaper paint is not quality paint, even those guys would not be "cheap" for a full re spray, but i certainly wouldnt trust them to do so, fella whos doing my e30 re sprayed front end of my range rover a year ago and it was and still is perfect, you do get what you pay for, if your going to the trouble and expense of a full re spray, do it once do it right

Alright matt.

The bloke to use is at the bottom of Chalford hill. Bob Price. He's at the end of the estate opposite the old Neighbourhood hill, at the very end once you drive through Chalford building supplies.

a £1K repaint is low and unless you do the prep im of the mind that a proper job inc engine bay and removing the windscreen and all locks handles etc is closer to £2K as its so time consuming.

end of the day the quality comes own to the abilities of the painter and his prep work...so don't assume that a top price will give you a better result.

Go find a car that was painted recently (actually look at more than a few), compare it to other newly painted cars, then contact the guy who painted the car you think was painted to your standard. For me this quickly got expensive as I learned more about a good paint job vs a bad one but I know I'm going to get a very good finish that I'll be happy with! Also, whats 3k (if you have it) when you hold onto the car for another 10yrs or more? You will also have a good paint job (or bad) as a way of selling the car if you let it go.
