Hi everyone, been looking for the right car for a while. I know what the obvious things to look out for ( Scuttles, Battery tray etc) but what else should I be looking at. I am not a youngster and do quite a bit of my own mechanics but after owning 11 BMW's and having them serviced by garages over the last 25 years I have become a little rusty! I see the Mtech II get a bit of stick on here but I just think they are a great looking car and cant resist anymore!! thanks. Jim in sunny Ramsgate! :o:

Ramsgate! Where I went to school!

This article is a good break-down of the problem areas:

But it also helps to click around the Wiki and check out the Common Problems in each area.

I doubt you'll find anything local that isn't a festering turd.

I live near Ash and am constantly on the lookout for decent local (ish) cars and have had very limited success over the last few years.

Welcome to the zone btw

You don't see many decent e30's round these parts. i have recently put mine back on the road, and enjoying it :) i'm only down the road in herne bay if you need a hand inspecting a e30 i know them intimately after the last few years of buying breaking a few whilst sorting out my 325

have a look up in the rear arch on the fuel filler side up in there they rot in there quite bad and often you cant see until its into the boot .remove the trim in the boot on the right hand side look for holes ,take a torch and have a good look up in the arch ,there is also a plastic tank in there not 100% what it is im suspecting a vapour expansion for the fuel tank im just in the process of removing it all to do some welding as mine had gone there ,behind the kit can hold all sorts of joys (see that thread all have a laugh or what have you (a bit further down in this section)

Good luck with the hunt, the tech 2 does seem to get a bit of stick on here, I quite like them.

As a general rule..

a cheap tech 2 = a grot bag..
