Hi folks, noticed something a little odd yesterday when bolting my head down yesterday. It looked like the stud was twisting as I applied torque to the nut. I'm thinking that as the stud is fully engaged into the head, the nut is bottoming on the top thread without actually clamping the head down. I'm sure I've read somewhere before about people turning 5mm off the bottom thread to stop this happening. Anyone seen this or can verify the machining option??

Been lubed, threads cleaned and debris removed from the holes and studs just nipped with a 1/4" ratchet . I didn't get washers with the studs. I did think about adding some. I'm thinking Maybe this is part of the reason the gasket failed?

Washers were missing from the std bolts. Ive robbed them from my spare engine and all is well. Gutted i forked a gasket because of this but glad in a way as my head has now been welded. Cheers for the help!!!

Welded? Have you had the water galleries welded like some people do when they fit a turbo?
