Evening chaps,

I am the proud owner of a 1988 325 coupe that I am playing "hunt the rust" with at the moment and I have a couple of questions if I may.

1. How do I remove the rear seat back? Got the base up, but the back is currently held fast... Any tips please?

2. Upon removal of the carpet and glovebox I have noticed that the heater matrix is leaking, do I have to remove the complete dash to remove this or are their any tips please?

Thanks in advance for all your help and advise. :)

Rear bench will have a 10mm bolt on either side at the base, undo these and then slide the rear section upwards and it will come off... Be careful of the rear door cards as 2 brackets have sharp edges which can damage the door cards when lifting out.

The heater matrix, if your car is a right hand drive, you can excess the matrix internals and lid them out from the passenger side without removing the dash. But check to see what part is leaking first before removing things as you might find its a much more simplier fix.

As Jim says there is a chance matrix could be simpler. More than likely heater valve that is accessible by just removing g glovebox

Thanks very much for the speedy replies chaps, I will try and have a look at the weekend.

I am removing the seats to remove the rear door cards so that I can replace the inner wings - the "tin worm" has attacked in all the usual E30 places and I have decided that it is time to put it right.

Thanks again for the replies with my technical question above, I am pleased to report that I have managed to remove the rear seats (quite easy when you know where they are bolted in!) and removed the rear door cards in the search for tin worm - found a bit more, but no more than I expected if I am honest and the good news is that the parts have started to arrive today to start replacing all the rusted out panels.

Had a good look at the water leak too after removing the closing panel it appears that the leak is coming from a joint going into the heater matrix and not the matrix itself, I guess that this is good but I am not sure how easy it is to get out to fix this yet....
