My bad, ignore my question. E30s don't have the orange light. Been in my work van all day with the orange brake pad light on

You say it had a new sensor at the rear, what about the front?
I normally check the light operation by bridging the two pins in the plug for the sensor - I've got an old sensor plug with the wires joined, from when I didn't fit the sensors but needed the light to go out.

If the light goes out with all the plugs bridged, but stays on with the sensors plugged in, you either have a dodgy sensor or connection at the plug.

To be honest, if you're not worried about having the sensor, I'd just cut the wires (sensor side of the plug) and join them together - you will then know if the light goes out. Insulate the join well and leave it till you next replace the pads, they normally come with new sensors.
