I recently bought some banded steels to fit to my e36 coupè, they're 16" BMW steels banded to 10j fronts and 11j rears...

Now they stick out a mile on the rear...

My arches need work anyway as they're rusted to shit... What i'm wodering is if anyone has any tips on making them road legal, i was thinking maybe buying some m3 gtr esq overfenders and having curvier arches but that idea kinda went dead in the water after a friend said they're designed to accomodate 18s and that my 16s would look stupid under them... Any help and/or ideas would be awesome.

There was a widebody kit for the E36, I think from Zeemax. It was kind of like an E30 M3 look for the E36. No idea how wide it was or if you can still get it, but its going to look better than some pop rivit specials.
Either that or you could do some major surgery on the arches and pull them out. I've seen it done (non BMW) but I've no idea how its done. I expect you will still need some very stretched tyres to keep the tread under the arch.

Slightly off topic, but what BMW were the wheels from originally?

Do you kno what the offset works out as, or even what the original width and offset was?

They will tuck in a bit as the suspension compresses, but I expect you'll still need plenty of work!

Someone who knows what they're doing would be able to pull the arch lip round and reshape it as a flare, but it would need a lot of tidying after.

Might be best sticking a tyre on, even just the cheapest part worn in the size you want so you can at least let the car rest on it for a better idea of the work it'll need.
cheers,

harry

thanks for the advice guys...

jmc330i - when i said the over fenders i meant i'd pot rivet them on but smooth them into the body so it looked like part of the car.

I'm not actually sure what bmw the wheels are from.... i bought them from a friend who bought them off someone who'd had them banded.

harry_p - i'm a bit of a douche when it comes to wheels.... do you know how i can work the offset out? and sadly no i don't know what width they were originally as, as said above i didn't have them banded.

I will grab a spare tyre and chuck it on the rim and try it :)

Iirc to work out offset you measure the true width of the rim (im mm) and divide it by 2, then rest a straight edge on the back of the rim and measure from that straight edge down to the mating face.
If the two measurements match you have ET0

Do this and post measurement up.
