E36 Clutch Time?? Video added

Hi having just bought a dirty six 1.8, it has a noisey clutch release bearing which is annoying me after only 2 days lol Any one got any links to a guide on doing it, how many hours labour do you think it would take for a garage as i dont want my pants pulled down! cheers

3 hours max, allowing for a bit of exhaust mount drama and a refresh ob the gear linkage.

BUT in my experience, 'clutch release bearing noise' is in 98% of cases fooked layshaft bearings in the gearbox

It is worth changing the gearbox oil and refilling it with fully synthetic gearbox oil 75/90 or equivalent. A lower than normal idle speed will also accentuate layshaft issues.

Or, turn the radio up and drive on till the clutch starts slipping

As above. If the noise occurs as you depress the clutch, it's a release bearing. If it makes the noise as the car is sat there idling, it's the gearbox.
I have a perfect used box, yours for 60 quid.

Main noise is when clutch is pressed and released, sounds like a wheezing or spining noise! Makes a slight noise in 1st but when it gets rolling is fine other than when changing gear! Is lay shaft bairing easy fix or just as easy to smack a new gearbox on the fooker? ta

Noise that goes away when the clutch is pressed will be gearbox related, noise that only occurs when the clutch pedal is used may well be release bearing related.

Layshaft bearing replacement involves foook off hammers and presses. Good used box is a cheaper option.
