How can I check this?
The red light came on, so I bought a new BMW sender and its still the same.
Can I test the sender?
should it put the light out if I link the wires with a bit of wire?
Many thanx

I think it should put the light out if you bridge the wires.

It won't "put the light out" if you bridge the pins in the plug, but it should stop it coming on. Once the light is triggered is stays on until it's reset by turning the ignition off.
Are you sure you have the correct sensor? Compare it for length with the old one, or turn the ignition on when the sensor is out of the tank.
Most BMW engines that use this style of sensor have it mounted underneath the header tank, with the float uppermost and the terminals at the bottom when installed. If you have been supplied with one of these, the light will come on when the tank is full, and only not come on when it's empty.

Thanks guys, forgot to say its an M20B25 so the level sender is in the bottle in the N/S inner wing
Edited to Add:
Linked the wires, reset the ignition, warning LED went out
Took the level sensor out and tried in both positions, sure enough it was back to front.
Googled the part number and sure enough, BMW have supplied the wrong one lol:

I think the correct part number is:
61311378320
as shown here:
