Just got my copy to have a look at the results for "CAR OF THE YEAR" Daryl came 4th with is M3. Not bad going at all, but the winner was a 2000 touring with a E36 engine. Not my cup of tea at all cause apart from the engine transplant, i saw nothing special on the car. In-fact, one of the letters PBMW recieved on page 28 was from a guy asking what all the fuss was about, cause he had a website with lots of 2000 tourings running the same conversion. I guess it all comes down to personal taste at the end of the day

Ho and have a look at page 32 at the Doni show report. Your's truely is there again and a pic of my engine bay on page 35 next to Dips's car winkeye :D Not a very good picture, but at least i'm there

I havent got the mag with me and only had a quick look through, but Im sure it was a 2000tii touring with the S14 motor - its the only one I can remember being featured.

I know what youre saying, its not really my sort of thing either but fair play to the guy - it must shift with the M3 motor in it 8O

Did you see the E30 turbo touring? Its giving me ideas  :?

Well done to Daryl, I believe Wayne's car came in 3rd place? The Jagermeister E30 M3 with the LS1, another worthy car!!

3 E30's in the top 5 winkeye I'm sure that 2000 touring is nice, but the winner in my eyes had to be the most original and best, but there is a guy asking what the fuss was all about cause he has 50 or so 2000 tourings including his own with the same transplant, so how does that then make that car the most original?

Last years winner (Azivedo E30 M3) was well deserved. Even i voted for it ahead of my mates 5 series and he's done near Ԛ£100k on his car. I guess it all comes down to individual taste in the end, but the days of the open cheque book modding is now coming to an end. It's going to be all about the old skool running big power and subtle styling now winkeye  :D

I voted for Darylls cos its such a beautiful E30 but i lusted after the 2000. And the colour was fantastic in the photos under the carpark lights. Had all the cool of a sorted MK1 Escort rs but with the body and heart of a beemer. Gonna build me one of those one day. winkeye

back on topic regarding the car of the year, I think thats the wrong choice. No offense to you BMW enthuiasts out there but I think the 2002 is nothing special what so ever, its butt ugly and looks like a pig! The cars that should have got the award should have been Daryl's M3 or that stripped out orange E30.

its his money and his choice to spend it how he pleases, i wouldnt go that far personally but at least he doing something different and i applaud that  i dont agree with pbmw being downmarket either i think its quite varied. seems to be a bit of "snobbery" against pbmw but i bet your all closet readers winkeye and yes i did spend 28grand on an 1985 celica , on a complete restoration and cosworth conversion, although that was spread over 8 years.its an individual thing

I'm a wiper not a reader !!! :)

PBMW is a shocking council type publication aimed at the illiterate underbelly of the bmw scene. At least maxpower interview fit 15 year old bitches and ask them relevant important questions like, Spit or swallow?,
Pink or brown? and not forgetting , How many times a day do you flick the bean ?. Quality stuff!! :D

I have just been looking at this thread which I feel is degenerating into the realms of personal abuse...we are all members of the zone cos we like e30's to a lesser or greater extent. I always wanted an e30 cab ,,,i am embellishing it to my own taste only because i want to ... not to make a profit and most of us are not in the motor trade...I can afford a Ferrari but i dont want to own one and i feel that monetry considerations should be left out as we all have different motives in owning e30's....argos' motive seems to be the profit one

i dont know about pbmw they dont seem to be in d h smiths here so they can't be popular

dont worry mate, its not personal abuse its constructive debate. unfortunately the celica is worth nothing now as it died in a major right off last year. the only parts left is the cosworth engine thats in my touring now...such is life  i dont look to make money on cars, i see it as more of a hobby to keep me busy and out of trouble winkeye i dont smoke or drink and i know people that have probably blown more than that over the years than ive spent on cars. :D

DaveD, PBMW is seldom stocked by erstwhile retailers like WHSmith etc but is readily available at Matalan, JD sports, Argos, lidl,Aldi ,Mcdonalds and other known haunts of the pay as you go underclasses.
I believe it can also be found at job centres, benefits offices and magistrates courts. :)

LOL gimme a break. That's the funniest thing I've heard in a long time.

Much as I love the E30, if I was in the financial bracket to afford such cars as a Ferarri, I can assure you I wouldn't be driving an old dog of a car (in comparison) like the E30.

Or... are you talking about the type of Ferarri they showed on last Sunday's Top Gear? Hey, I can afford a Ferarri too :woohoo:

OMG, i wish i had 100k, let alone have it to "waste" on modding a car!

Not starting an argument or anything, but 99% of modified cars are worth less than the standard car. Obviously, if you spend 100k you will get a bit back, but theres no way that you would recoupe the cost, or anything like it!

Dont get me wrong, i like speding money on cars, but that is a bit steep!

the problem with modding cars is u do it to your tastes. And someone else might like it, but the chances are they would do a few things different.

So a propper modded car is an individual thing and rarely will u find someone else who will like it exactly as it is and be willing to pay over the odds for it.

The more u mod the car the less market there is for people looking for a car like that.

Most like to buy standard and start from scratch!
