Hi guys, just completed my engine swap from m40 to m20,
Heaters and windows don't work,same as mirrors,now I'm running a facelift loom,
And a preface starter,All the wires on the starter are on the correct way round,2 big wires on the big terminal, green+black at the top and the other at the bottom,
I'm using a preface starter as I'm using a preface flywheel,

What can cause this issue then,I've used a piece of wire to check te relays, and they the windows then work,So what's causing this issue

heater is fuse 20, mirrors are fuse 19 and both are switched on by relay K7, so you need to examine why that's not switching by checking Fuse 10. Try swapping it with Relay K5 to test the relay itself.

Swapped the relay,no luck there, swapped the fuses 20,19 with new ones, nothing,
If I give a live to the green and black wire on the starter, everything will work,

With or without the ignition being on?
With or without the wire connected to the starter motor?

That is very strange! It's quite likely that things would come to life if the ignition was off, but certainly not with the ignition on. For this to happen the side of the coils of relays K5 and K7 that are connected to ignition live inside the fusebox would somehow have to be earthed.
Is the rest of the car e.g. engine, in working order?

Just as well. This would result in sparks!

You say you have a pre facelift starter motor? I didn't think these has a terminal for the black/green wire. On pre facelift cars the black/yellow was used for both the start signal and the unloader function.
Either way, heater and mirrors, etc. shouldn't come to life when power is applied to the black/green when the ignition is on. They should work when the black/green is earthed, and stop working when it's connected to live.

Yep I'm using a preface starter, that has 2 spade terminals, and a big nut terminal on it,
I've connected the 2 big power wires to the big nut,
The black and green wire to the top spade terminal,
And the other wire to the bottom, would that be correct ?

Can't remember now for certain if the ignition was on or off, will have to check tomo morning before I go work

Hi Brian,so to carry on with my issue with the heater etc
I gone over the car again,
If I have the ignition off,and I earth the green and black wire the
Heater will come on same as the mirrors,Windows's don't work inless doors are open

No with the ignition on if I earth the lead, heaters and mirrors work, still
Not windows, and if I touch a live it will go off,

Now As I'm using a preface starter,if I connect the green and black wire to
The bottom terminal the heaters and mirrors work but if if i turn the the ignition on and off,the heaters and mirrors will have gone off and i have to re-touvh the bottom spade terminal
Windows still don't aswell

can you swap the solinoid over from facelift to preface ?

A better place to connect it would be to the inner 8mm stud - the one that has a braid or strap going to the motor itself. This will then exactly replicate the facelift circuit.
