Earlier this year my brother brought his second E30 after he wrote his cab off.
Image
Image

He brought a rebuilt M40b18 to replace a suspected failed hgasket m40 lump that was in when we fetched it.
So in the not so warm months we changed it.
ImageImage
Image
It was then that we found the odd bit of rust.
Image
Then a bit more and so on,Image

Image

Removed the bumber and found this,
Image
we had already decided to change every bush on the car and fit a rear disc upgrade,so we started stripping it back to the bone,
Image
Image
Image
Which just led to more surprises where someone had already `attempted` to repair some holes, which failed miserably. There idea was to slap some patches over the hole on the inside of the car! :-x
So out with the grinder and do some cutting,

What comes out has to go back in,

There are a lot more pics of veldering thats been done need to get the camera of my brother.
We`ve doing this over the last few months nearly every weekend
Just got the nsr outer inner arch to do this weekend and then a couple of little holes in the outer cill and then start putting it all back together lol

Good work.. Nice surprises when you go hunting..

I've got an IS in my sisters garage that I took off the road in the summer because of rot, which I hope to have ago at mending. Replaced it with a Touring, which although appears clean-ish I haven't gone on a proper hunt yet. :(

Looking forward to some updates..

Managed to get the other pics of the things ive already done.
Here is what someone thought would be a good job, they should be slapped hard in the face with a pair of welding gloves.
Both footwells looked like this..
Image
Image
Started chopping it out to see how bad it was

Image
Image
Image
Does anyone know what this would connect to?i found it in this state down the inside of the cills.
Image
The other footwell
Image
Image
Image
Slowly built them up peice by piece
Image
Image
Image
Still got the mount for the peadal to fix down yet,ie decided to leave that until i mark where the cut out in the carpet will be.I dont want to find out i got it wrong and have to cut it off and do it again.
Image
Image
I didnt bother rebuilding the pads, didnt see the point except for asthetics.
Image
Image
Then we moved on to the seat runner anchor point at the rear, cill side on both sides of the car.
Same sh*t,a plate was slapped over the rot from inside.Didnt take any step by step pics of this as i just plodded on with it.I just pieced it up bit at a time and completley welded every part to each other and fully welded the anchor plate to the floor.

Image
Image
Will get some pics of the finished artical
Then came the bit that i kept putting off cuz i didnt know if i could do it or not, whilst i was welding my brother was hunting for tin worm and found this
Image
Image
So bit the bullet and chopped it out
Image
Image
Ended up with this
Image
Image
So i borrowed a bit of metal off this that was brought as spares for my brothers tourer
Image
Image
Image
So heres my attempt at doing it yesterday afternoon
Image
Image
Image
Just got to clean up the edges where ive welded the two panels together and build a lip for the arch then clean the weld up a bit.
Fairly happy with the out come so far.
To be continued....

Nice progress. Not that I'm any sort of expert; but the welds all look nice a tidy.. cracking work.

I always thought it a good idea not to put the factory(/jacking) pads back on as they're a heaven for the notorious tin worn that likes to haunt most E30s..

Fk college courses, get yourself a half decent welder about a 130amp+ and cut a big hole in the side of your misses washing machine and weld it back in lol.
You`ll soon get the hang of it with the amount of ear bashing youll get.

A decent place to do it in is a must really,it does my head in when trying to welding all twisted up down the side of the house and the neighbers moan when i do it on the front drive.I just did it even more when they moaned.

Thankfully weve landed well and got this building on a farm, not massive but enough room to move around and only costs £70 a month ,so we got two.One to work in and one to store all the parts in. 8)

p.s
not gay just like messing with my bangers :)

The washing machine would make for a quick forced learning curve to say the least.. I just wanted to get a bit of a grounding (excuse the pun) for it all, so I don't go blowing bigger holes than I have to start with. I've read and watched a few bits.. courses aren't too expensive.. :)

Then we moved onto the sunroof cartridge,
What a pita this was we followed the wiki to get it out but where it said there was five spot welds on the front we had four in different places.
A couple of little horrors were found
Image
Image

Just goin to remove the cartridge from the tourer as its in ok condition.
