Disconnect the battery. Then reconnect it.

I know it sounds drastic, but I'd get it removed and install a modern one.
I had no end of trouble with my old Cobra, which sounds like it might be the same at the one you have? Just old electronics designed to let you down at the worst possible moments (for me that was five minutes before getting a ferry home...twice!).
