Thought its about time I put my car on here so you can all bash another sport owner!

I bought it in Jan 2011, its a 1989 tech 2 sport on staggered Alpina's, with silver leather, factory A/C, cruise control and 227K on the clock.

Some Pics of when I first picked it up, I sold the number plate straight away for a lot more than I expected! winkeye
ImageImageImageImageImageImage
Everything was standard, I serviced it and drove it in the summer months while I got to learn more about E30's, Meeting and Selling parts to so many zoners has helped alot! I sorted a few minor issues, fitted some furbed injectors then got new front tyres and lowered it on 30mm Eibachs. The front jacking pads were fooked, had them sorted by a reputable local garage.
Image
Image
By this point (Jan 2012) I was totally in love with the car, never missed a beat! I knew I was gonna have to take the kit off at some point and have a poke about... almost put it up for sale once or twice!
Decided eventually to keep it, run it for another summer then get to work, so glad I didn't sell her now!

I jacked it up and started cleaning the arches out this morning whilst waiting for Jim and Kedge to arrive, they kindly offered to help tear my car to pieces and hunt for the brown stuff, Well I found a hole in the battery whilst waiting for them, but I already knew that was fooked, they turned up and it all came off quite quickly
ImageImageImageImageImageImage
Evidence of some dodgy repair?
ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage
Not the best pictures, but its been a good day and nowhere near the amount of rust I expected! The rear end had been restored 5 years ago, to a very high standard from what we've seen today! I'll get better pics next week. Jim was hoping he'd be taking another breaker home for peanuts but not today my friend!!winkeye

Bought a 325 touring off Kedge last week for winter duties, its awesome! 8)
Image

Plans now are to deal with the rust, major undercarriage tlc, got a 170mm tech 1 wheel coming (thanks Rav) and a 330 clubsport rack and pipes (thanks Dan) refurb rear beam, struts, new calipers, shocks, Eibach ARB kit, hubs, all susp bushes etc.
Will update this as much as I can but don't get much spare time, ideally want it back on the road by March!

Got to love a Tech II in black. This is the exact same colour combo as my first sport before the deer ended its day's.

:(

Looks a very tidy rear end. Time for the TFR and scrubbing brush!

Give us a shout Mat when your sorted at the new spot. I need a clutch. :D

C'mon Matthew, where are the pictures of holes

I don't think that is a repair by the scuttle, brush mark is more like a light bit of factory seam sealer, just needed to get you a little worried.

This is without doubt one of the better Sports out there, can tell its been looked after and the previous work is to an excellent standard. Proof if ever it was needed that you buy on condition and not mileage!

Me & Jim quickly lost interest when we realised there wasn't much we could get you panicking over :chuckle:

Nice work. Looked like a thorough inspection...

I not long ago picked up a 325i touring (a great upgrade from my M42), I love it.

I've got rot in the same area (pic above) on my other E30, have you planned how to let in new steel yet? Looks a tricky place to me..

Looking forward to updates..

Today is only day 1, no solid plans yet! I think it needs a new fuel tank, will look into this closer at the time, it's way over my ability thats for sure!!

Have a look at beardymats build thread. I did a small repair patch around this area.

The pipe for the fuel tank is braised and the rot was hiding beneath the underseal.

Fertan FTW :D

^^Cheers..

I do remember seeing it somewhere in a thread a few months back. Perhaps I'll have a look through beardyman's again.

I've got an E30 tucked away needing a lot more attention than yours. To be honest I think a lot on here would be fragging it. But I like to be kept busy. I'm trying to get on a welding course so I can get started on the thing..

Thanks, They always look shiny in pics but up close you can see all the scuffs and scratches :(

I paid £4400. It was the first E30 I'd viewed, and apart from the chance of bad rust I knew very little about them! selling the plate helped bring the sale price down to £3750. Chuffed with that considering the Alpina's are worth a bit!

Those Alpinas are worth £1k when refurbed PROPERLY!

And that wheel is now going up in price too. :D

Let me know how much extra you want, I'll put your parts prices up accordingly

What a lovely car, definately worth the price you paid. I must add that please don't put your axle stands there, the rears can go on the rear beam or under the bolt for the rear beam mounts and the fronts can go under the ARB brackets. Just trying to preserve the sill jacking points as they fold over/crush easily.

I saw that pic before, does it not say axle stands are ok there?
I was worried about damage but did use some folded newspaper on top of the stands

It's the weight of the car on the stands that causes the damage.

Its because the handle has been adapted for the locals as they all have 6 webbed fingers.

For anyone who hasnt visited Matt before, he lives in the same place they filmed 'The Hills Have Eyes' 8O

Can't believe you guys went to EJM for fuel! Mkt Harborough is on your way back and normal fuel prices.

That place is like a timewarp, same couple have owned it and ran it since I moved here 15 years ago! If they like you they let you use the pump, but its always that expensive I'd be happy to let them do the work!

U think this place is like Rosyton Vasey, U should try the butchers! I don't know what he puts in those sausages... winkeye
