I'm taking my recaros to get re-trimmed tomorrow and can't decide if I want to keep them original with the horizontal "stitching" or have them match the back seats with the vertical. What's the general concensus?

It'll look so much better matching you'll wonder why you ever asked the question.

I was thinking the same thing when I had mine done, I opted for the horizontal finish on the fronts and the original vertical stitching on the rear seats in my sport.

IMO it would look wrong to the OEM purist but it's your choice and sometimes it's nice to be different.

Thanks for the input, horizontal does look good but I think I'll go with the vertical to match the rears.

Vertical would look f*cking shite because it doesn't work with the shape of the centre cushion of the Recaro.

I have seen recaros trimmed in this way and just looks crap.

Also, as i told Kieran before he got his done, if you ordered a pair of Recaros when the car was new, the rear bench in a touring and a saloon would have vertical and the Recaros horizontal.

Here's an example of vertical stiching on recaros, make your own mind up.

F*cking shite might be a bit strong, I've done a mock-up using sports seat covers and it looks ok. I wouldn't go for the total coverage as in Rav's picture, just the 3 lines like on the sports seat.

No doubt whichever choice I make I'll wish I did the opposite ...
Does anyone have a picture showing both front and rear seats in place with the different stitch lines on show?

Opinons are like arseholes, everyone has one.

More importantly, Ed you're using original BMW seat cloth to trim them right? If you're going to the trouble of using that for that oem look ten at least stitch it the way BMW would have.

They look great.

Whilst here. Do rear benches on a touring differ between leather sports and leather comfort?

i think the three vertical stripe ones look superb.

having missmatched front and rear would really bug me.

the ones higher up the page with loads of stripes look a bit crap though.
cheers,

Thing is they wont look like that one in the pic as its done in leather which is thicker than cloth so the definition wont be as pronounced with cloth.

Finally got around to fitting the recaros today. I may get the head rests done again as they're not perfect but on the whole I'm pretty pleased. It's going to take a while to get used to the new driving position, the recaros feel quite a bit higher than sports seats.

Yeah, I do actually prefer the look of the horizontal stitching but I think it's best to have them matching the rears.

I think it depends on the colour...

If the middle is a different colour then I think the vertical looks good.

However if it is all one colour then I would go with the horizontal.

Why not google some images and then make your mind up.

Where are you having your seats done and what are you paying if you don't mind me asking.
