This isnt such a technical question i have had a look on search too but cant really find the answers i am looking for .
basically i am looking to do some drag racing in a e30 , i have a e30 cab with an m50 engine in but have never got around to finishing the roof reluctant to pay the extortionate price of a hard top thus the car has sat in the garage the past 5 years and i have just bought fast out of the box cars instead, but now i am really wanting a e30 again but i am thinking i need a 2 door and i have had two offered to me today both tech 1 sports ,one is standard 325 and is cheap (1/3rd of the price)the other has a m3evo 3.2 engine sat in but not fitted (just sat on mounts ) but its considerably more ,my question is is it worth stretching my budget and buying the m3 engined one and finishing the build given i can do everything except wires but it would take a long time due to budget OR buy the standard one and fit a turbo ,which car would be faster when done ( i seen a vid on an American site with hardly any difference but no spec on the turbo car) ,or just finish the m50 cab and use that (not sure with the extra weight ?) also what kind of times are people getting with what engines i ran a 12.8 in my evo at york and i am wanting to get to somewhere atleast close to that , i know lads with saxo`s high 14`s and that would be major disappointment to be beat by one of them

I'm no expert by any means. However I would say that for competitive drag racing that surely what you need is torque. My suggestion would be buy the cheap one and plonk an m62 donk in it.

This^^^^^
My old e36 m3 engined e30 could do no better than 13.9 up the drag strip. Getting a ton and a bit breeze block to run good times is about more than just power. I have seen a m60/2 engined e30 run low 12's, but that is a dedicated drag car.

cheers lads, looks like i may be taking the cheaper one and looking at different conversions ,i will be buying some drag slicks for the rear and some decent wider wheels ,the car is just to be a toy really but it will be expected to drive around the Alps next summer.

To get an e30 into the 12s will cost some coin.

nitrous is what you need for this.

decided i am going to look at the cheaper sport next week and buy an engine rebuild and turbo that and aim to fit that in the summer ,the half done conversion could turn out a nightmare ,and yes Nitrous is on the cards too ,(there was a chromie with a 4.6 rover v8 motor in with a nitrous kit in that looked very interesting on ebay ,i was going to look at it but a few bits didnt quite look right like the top of the door was closed the bottom was open a bit it doesnt have the right look for me anyway and i thought the price was too high)

My M52 engined 2dr chromie runs 13.9 at York in full street trim. It's my daily driver.
As to how fast you go will depend on how much you have to spend, how wisely you spend it and how much of a road legal car you want
