I think Lee hit the nail on the head with the colour, I was keeping it White, but there's a few white chromies on here atm.

No not Jim, it's too far for him to travel.

Arches will need modding though for the fookers to fit.

Liking the idea of painting it brown, I've got a thing for brown cars at the moment 8O

Have a word with Matt about shells, he was saying earlier that he can get M20 ones so can maybe get them for the M30 as well.

Not much today Lee.
Set out today to clean up and polish the inlet and exhaust ports, did 2 and the bloody dremel gave up :x .
So did as much as I could by hand, cleaned thm, but not as much as I would have liked, so they'll do.
Started lapping in the valves, inlet don, exhaust ar a bit harder to do and will be back on them tomorrow.

That's about it for today. :(

For the money that Kos will want, the bottom end on this one should be ok.
It'll be a new engine with all the bits and pieces i've been buying.
Ordering new shells,
bearings,
head/gasket set
water pump,
new crank seals,
camshaft seals,
needed a new rocker arm shaft, so got that too.
Polished all the inlet/exhaust valves
Head skimmed and now cleaned
Bottom end cleaned and painted.

Got to pick up new chain guides from Sytners on Thursday, and then they'll probably be more to buy. 8O

Bought a new proper Dremel 300 this morning{Bluepoint (Snap On) gave up the ghost) as I wanted to polish the ports.
Thought about it last night and for the hassle, I thought it was worth a bit of effort.
Pics below of the inlet ports, before and after.
Pics aren't the best though.
I'll take some better ones tomorrow.

These turned up today too.

Rav, you know you shouldn't polish the inlet ports right? You want a rough texture on them.

Also, a friend of mine (motorsport engineer) was telling me it's not too smart to polish the exhaust ports either on a road car. The smooth surface allows condensation, causing carbon to stick to it.

Good job only the inlets are done.
I suppose a few minutes with some wet"N"dry will be in order for tomorrow then

A good clean is always good. Try mixing up a solution of alloy wheel cleaner (the acidic stuff) and water and give it a good soaking, then remove any stubborn stains with a toothbrush and a stronger mix. Quick blast with a pressure washer later and it will look like new

Cheers Ross, looks like they'll be some toothbrush action tomorrow.
One thing I did pick up on, the last inlet valve giude won't accept the valve.
The valve was difficult to remove, so after a bit of digging around, it needs to have a reamer sent down o get rid of the slight burring inside.
I've checked the valve, and all is good with that.
But it's seeming more and more likely this head has been rebuilt at some point.
So i'll be reaming (Wait's for pacers smart remarks) the guide tomorrow too.

Ordered some more bits today, looks like they should turn up on Monday now, so weekend will be free to strip the ITB's and clean them, or have them soda blasted.

Sent off a few items to be soda blasted including the throttlebodies, so hopefully should be back soon.

Had the block honed today too, needed doing as there was slight scoring on a few of the bores.

Well, only a small update.
I know most of you have been watching "Maggspower" 's M30 head rebuild, and ITB cleaning Threads.
Well now to let the cat out of the bag, those were all my M30 parts winkeye .
I had Byron twist my arm into having the headwork done, and had it dropped of to me this afternoon, and i'm very happy with the work he's done. :D

So , here's some piccies for you to drool over.

Had a load of parts Soda and media blasted to get rid of all the oil and wax on the parts.

Image
Image

The ITB's were like this
Image

To this
Image
Image

Also, had some head work done in the last few weeks too, thought it would be nice to treat it to a better flow

Image
Image

Had the seats and vlaves cut to 3 angled finishes.

Image
Image
Image

Next new seats, cutter pilot installed.
Image
The first cut at 60* is the bottom cut.
Image
Followed by a 30* top cut, then the seat cut, both are on a double sided cutter. The seat cut is at 46* the two faces will bed in together within the first moments of the engine being started.
Image
This is what you end up with after it has been soda blasted, and all the cuts finished.
Image
A before and after, not alot of difference really as the head had already been scrubbed, but the soda gives it a nice uniform look and doesn't damage the surface of the alloy.
