In the process of shortening my struts i got distracted and forgot to take out the shock before starting to cut, im a complete "ass" i know. And by the time i knoticed it was too late :(. from what i gathered only minimal fluid was lost, But i know there will be air in the shock now.

Soo is this shock capput or could it be welded up and saved somehow?

I know people have completely stripped down shocks before but i wouldnt know were to start

Cheers
Carl

Haha im not the average joe. Ya dont learn untill you have given it ago.

N the reason i shortened my struts is even with the coiloverslieve welded on n the adjusters wound to the bottom the car wasnt that low n the shock were dottoming out. So to make the car lower and still have suspention travel i shortent my struts. I dont know if the turrets can be raised on these so i didnt even look into that route

Forget raising the shock towers, fit flat top mounts. They'll drop the car 50-80mm and, more importantly, put the suspension near the middle of it's travel where it can work properly.

I didnt know about the flat top-mounts. And the struts have been shortened and im happy with the result.

Its just i have now got a single adjustable spax laying round worthless and was wondering if i could repair the other to make em a pair again

Wasn't there someone making short coilovers by cutting down struts?
Used Golf inserts IIRC.
OP, how are you going to fit full-length shocks into shorter struts?

I, too want pics :?

I have pics of the process up to the point of weldinf but in my excitement to fit them i didnt take a pic of the finished product' ill see if i can get a good pic with a wheel off. I used vw corrado coilover inserts there about 4" shorter than standard 51mm e30 ones but i only chopped the struts down 3" and dropped a spacer in the bottom. Ill have pics tonight hopefully
