Found this question and this link on the BMW M Facebook page
Whats your favourite BMW M5 ?
So whats yours and why?
Mine....
The E39 M5 for being such a superb great package .... head and shoulders above its peers at the time and incredibly beautiful .... but closely followed by the E60 M5 for its rawness and the staggering high-revving NA multi-award winning engine

BTW Check out the BMW M5 Police Car at the end!!!!
Imagine being pulled by that. Wonder if it is tuned faster than the normal M5?
Btw BMW Park Lane told me all the BMW Police Cars are tuned .... well the parking guy said that?!

Sorry to tell you this mate but police cars are not tuned up from standard. Thats a myth. The only thing that is tuned up in a traffic car is the driver.pony wrote:BTW Check out the BMW M5 Police Car at the end!!!!

e28 is the best looking but the e39 is the best overall package especially when you take in to account how cheap they are now

1991 BMW E30 318i Neon Design Convertible (Sold)
1990 BMW E30 325i Touring (Sold)
1990 BMW E30 318IS (Sold)
1990 BMW E30 316i (RIP)
2ND THAT!snakebrain wrote:E28 is the correct answer to this question. SA spec with leather everything. shadowline trim and a great big lump of tupperware round the bottom...

Suprisingly for me I think my favourites is the E39 followed by the one after the E39 ( whatever E or F number that is
)
The E28 is just too old, the E34 is nice but I think the E39 is the best all rounder

e30topless said : Proper BMW's have 4 headlights, last of the run was the E30 and E34/E32 anything after that is just complete shite
E34 for me. Not a fan of a kitted E28 and anything after an E34 is financial suicide. Shame really as E39 is far more of a car for your money

E28 with chrome bumpers and no trim (assuming the car was mint)
But as an every day car (again assuming mint) the E34 3.8 would do me nicely

Have any of u driven an F10 M5?
That thing has an epic amount of power! But feels too much like a machine and all u do is press the pedal and off it goes.
Im a huge fan of the E60 due to the beast under the bonnet but i have a soft spot for the E34 and E28 M5!
Edit: after santa pod, the E39 M5, being as cheap as it is, is the one id have. Holds 5 people, is a manual, has a V8, sounds fookin epic and goes rather well. Ticks all my boxes

The M52 engined E30's were doing the same times at the pod as the E39 M5's.Ajsingh wrote:

I know they are not remotely comparable vehicles and above 100mph the M5 would probably serve the E30 up all day long, but in a short acceleration burst over the 1/4 mile there was nothing in it.

Apparently the E60 M5 in Manual Gearbox was not very good. Originally was designed in conjunction with the SMGIII Gearbox. Hence, does not work so well with a Manual. They only released a Manual to bow down to marketing pressure from USA. One of their biggest markets I believe. I read that in a magazine or somewhere recently.Ajsingh wrote:True^ but the m52 doesnt have that v8 noise.
Id have a usa import e60 m5, has a proper manual box
Quite like the E34 M5 LE .... Now not only is that a Last-Of-The-Line one but is Super Rare
Very subtle looks
Engine of choice has to be that V10 5 litre NA surely out of all the M5s ?
Btw I never driven any M5

E28 M5 still looks good .... I wonder if it turns heads in the streets and is any good at pulling birds (that's the inner chav in me
) .... The original M5 I wonder when it was launched how much it cost in today's money ?
Don Palmer is a big fan of the E28 M5
Think it looks stunning in Diamond Black

Ironic they gave a manual to the land of the autos, and not to the europeans, land of the manuals though.pony wrote:Apparently the E60 M5 in Manual Gearbox was not very good. The e39 is nice but the e28 was surely the best?? Saying that some of the LE e34's looked very tasty!
I saw one of these new f10 out side ring werk last weekend, looked dodgy didn't like the bonnet and the front end was so square like an e30 brick...

The E28 was the Boy. Dolpin or Lachs, metal bumper with dechrome and black leather, completely standard.
The E34 3.6 and 3.8 5 speed look nice but they're big heavy things.
The M Car to buy now is a mint 4 door M3 E36. They're nimble, bastarding fast and you can buy a genuinely nice one for 6 -7 grand.
E60 M5 - a nasty, 13mpg ticking bomb. No ta.
