Most 'sillyspeed' cars have low mileage...........

On a positive note, the Momo leather is a nice place to spend some time on them hard shoulder visits :)

have you heard of that new tech called MP3? its amazing you can store loads of music of a device no bigger than a car key! winkeye

Car looks really nice though, i would never risk owning one myself but still give them credit where its due, the spoiler does look a tad silly but you can soon sort that out

Not much to go wrong........

The gearbox and clutch is just a standard 5 speed box........

Its just the Hydraulic pump, Hydraulic Accumilator, Hydraulic servos, Clutch piston rod AND ecu that can cause problems !!!

Did you know that the "Selespeed" system is the same system as used in the Ferrari F355 F1 and Aston Martin Vanquish....just turned down abit.....

Most of the problems are caused by people using the wrong oil in the hydraulic system, thinking it use's normal automatic transmission oil/fluid.

Most of the problems are caused by the system being sh1t, as it was in the 355 and the Vanquish. I seem to recall Top Gear needing 3 Vanquishes before they got a lap in !

Selespeed - one of Magnetti Marelli's finest!

Also used in the E46 and known as SSG. Not very good at all. Nothing to do with the oil (who would it, unless it's leaking. Oh hang on..........)
The ECU is the main issue, but it all goes wrong eventually. 156's aren't too bad a car as long as they're cheap.

Nothing cool about a 156 apart from the quirky interior. One of the more modern alfas I'm keen on is the 146 gta, they look great and will blow the doors off your 'tuned' e30.

This whole 'petrolhead' thing is a bit stupid tbh. Many alfas do have a certain appeal to them but 3k plus for an old 75 which is a hideous car makes no sense.

Alfa interiors are great. The 166 is a very nice place to pass a few hours. Unfortunately, the engine/gearbox/electrical departments lag behind a bit. And the dealer network is very poor indeed.

My mate had one of these new. Was plagued with gearbox problems. Handed the thing back in the end.

The V6 is a much better engine than the Twin Fart. It's a proper all alloy Alfa engine for a start rather than a marginal Fiat iron block bottom end with a TS head plonked on top. As long as the belt/water pump is changed on time they're pretty good. 156 V6's were manual as well.
Not a bad car for £500.

As for Alfa dealers, they're no worse than anyone else these days.

Congrats.

Big rear wing there is that standard ?

I never understood why people say unless you owned an Alfa your not a petrol head ?

Personally, I would one day love to own a Lotus Exige. They just steer and handle so well and when you sit inside you feel like you are in a go-kart. Like a mini McLaren F1 :-)

No, but I've done a 164 V6 24v and they're a bastard. The 156 is reckoned to be a real swine, almost an engine out job.

The 156 hoop boot spoiler is actually a Bertone styled towing eye. :D

you could use it as a towing eye, there are enough screws holding the bloody thing on !
