I've just had by front tyres replaced and out of curiosity I asked how much some winter tyres would cost. I am using 195/65 r14 which I believe is standard (it's a 325 if that makes a difference). I was told that this was an old dead tyre size and I was lucky to get tyres at all. No winter tyres are made for this size.

Is this true? What winter tyres are people running on there bottletops or should I find some other wheel?
Btw I know it's not winter yet

sounds like a load of old shoite to me. I've got a set coming from Germany, which are used and will fit bottletops easily.

Have you searched on the online tyre shops like Blackcircles ?

175/70 14, 195/60 14 and 195/65 14 all listed as suitable tyre sizes for the 325i in the owners' manual
