Morning all,

I'm cleaning up the Wiki, and the M40 and M42 pages are looking a little sparse:

http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/index.php/M40

http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/index.php/M42

If any one of you have some info that you think ought to be there, or can see errors (like hp figures, for example), then say it here and I'll make ammendments.

Pictures would also be a big help.

The M42 page has now been substantially revised, so if anyone wants to read it through and comment it would be appreciated.

I can provide a picture of an M40 engine if you like.

Sure, just post it in this thread. Saves me scouring the Photo forum :D

Don't know if these are of Interest, The Rad. is off an IS, hence the different top hose.

M42 inlet manifold doesn't need swapped if you are using an e36 motor. The e30 is better but its not a requirement.

A couple of pointers; the chain idler gear was replaced by a curved nylon guide rail in late 1993 at which point the old twin V belts were replaced by the serpentine belt. E36 engines have the same head but thinner valve stems and single valve springs. Excess crank endfloat is caused by the engine only having 180 degree thrust washers and not full 360 degree. Only later aircon cars have a dual mass flywheel.

Will I notice better MPG replacing my M40 with a E30 M42 unit?

Mine seems to do about the same mpg. That's with the 318i diff still, so if you put in the 318is diff will prob be better mpg.

Hi,

I have some close pics of my camshaft showing the oil spray bar...could be a help? Any car pix...got some of doing the timing belt too...are here: http://s1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc4 ... ar%20bits/ You should be able to get direct links to the images.

There's nothing about the sensors or ignition...this write up is a good way to get people thinking properly about diagnosing their possibly sensor/ignition type faults I think? It's certainly a good read about how the DME for Motronic 1.1 and 1.3 works: http://www.opel-scanner.com/files/DME_1.1_1.3.pdf

It might be good to have a link to the ECU section on the wiki!

Nice general page though, thanks for making/improving it!
