Hi my fellow zoners. I have an aftermarket stereo I would like to fit to my 1990 316i 5door e30. The problem I have had an aftermarket stereo fitted, so it still has the factory fitted "Blaupunkt windsor SQR 38" fitted. I have an iso connector for my aftermarket stereo, but I need to know which wire goes with what. Here are some links to the pics so you know what I'm dealing with. Any diagrams will be much appreciated. Thanks for reading. (sorry for mini essay and structure, was using my mobile!). Ryan aka Stokiedundee.

Hi Leigh, thanks for the link but the diagram aint there in the picture because theres a fault with the page. I feel like ripping my hair out with this wiring!!! I just need the wires colour coded to the ones on my aftermarket ISO connector. I dont want to have to pay halfords £50 to fit my aftermarket stereo for me, like I had to with my last 316. I'm gonna have another scan of the web and try and find something. There has to be something out there on the WWW!!! lol. Thanks anyway Leigh.

I've managed to wire it up regards power. I just need to match up the speaker wiring. Any advice or diagrams will be much appreciated.

From that blurry pic, it looks like standard wiring mate. the all the wires that are in pairs the, purple, green, white and grey will be for your speakers. Then black will be ground the yellow is likely the live to the ignition and the red is the permanent live to store memory settings. Might help you out mate,

The halfords iso connector goes back to the accessory panel behind the glove box, no need to join/splice the wires apart from the speakers.

mate speaker wires will be the ones that are in pairs as per my first post
you will have four pairs of wires, one for each speaker in the car x4.
fromt he picture you showed the speaker wires will be the purple, green, white and grey as far as i can see. if all these are in pairs IE 2 of each then thats yor speaker connections
.
hope thats abit of help

Hi mate, the only factory wires for the beamer I have left are 2 black and yellow wires and 2 black and white wires. I know the speaker wire colours on the aftermarket ISO connector, I just need to know which colours connect to what, for example purple wire to black and yellow wire and so on. Thank you.

lost it mate, but did however come across this link. I just want to make sure I get the right beamer wires matched up because I dont want to blow my electrics as I'm a beginner at this. Most of you may or may not wonder why I am having so much difficulty, and I will say this to those who wonder: I'm a BEGINNER at this, so please BARE with me!!

right,
bit hard for me to guess then, becasue mine had an iso connection already on it.
if you know which wires are speakers from the ISO connection seperate these out, and you said you have found out which wires are for power, ground, switched power, seperate these out. not exactly sure how the speakers are wired in the e30 but if all your left with is two pairs of wires coming from the actaul car harness the (2 black and yellow wires and 2 black and white wires) you mention in your reply then these will be speaker feeds. so you can connect these up with any of the 4 sets coming from the Iso block, does that make sense mate?

Thanks for that mate. I've already hooked up the power. I also wired up the ISO left rear speaker wires to the black and yellow wires which I have been told on the link below, are the rear left speaker wires (but this must be wrong as theres no sound). I think I'm just gonna have to fiddle about abit, (trial and error) before I get the speakers connected!!!

no problems mmate, yeah decent thread on that link an extended version of whats above from what i can make out. yes just dont connect any of the direct 12v feeds to the speakers and youl be fine, just a matter of finding out what is powering what speakers wise.

Yeah its a good thread. I think its just gonna be a matter of trial and error until I find which speaker wire goes to what. Thanks again mate and yeah I'll make sure I dont connect any of the 12 volt feeds to the speakers directly!!! I've already connected up the power to the stereo and taped it up with electrical tape. Its just a matter of getting the sound now!!!

I have finally installed my 1st aftermarket wiring installation. I'd like to thank all the fellow zoners that gave me advice. Check the link below to see the end result.
For future ref, the best electrical diagrams for an e30 can be found here:
http://shark.armchair.mb.ca/~dave/BMW/e30/e30_89.pdf
This covers ALL the bases if you have a later model w/ an m20, especially. Plus, it's straight from BMW”“ the same manual provided to the dealers back in the day....
