After getting out of my z4, and driving my M3 (E46) for a while now, I've decided to buy an E30 325e. I'll start the b27 build pretty soon, but can't make up my mind on the route I want to take. (Mainly because this is the first time I've had my hands on an M20). I know the b27 is an engine built for torque, as are most upgrades, but I would like to see a decent HP gain as well. Any advice as to how to get a nice HP gain, along with the substantial gain in torque? Also, the rpm's, I know they don't usually see over 4500rpm's, what's the best way, if any, to bring the limit up a tad more?

Stock head from a 320i with 325i cam/inlet/injectors etc will see you with about 175bhp,with a similar torque fiqure.

If a 320/520 head is not available in your part of the world,it is just about possible to convert the eta head,BUT,you need to make provision for an oil feed to all 7 cam bearings, eta heads have 4 bearing cams. You will also need considerable skills to modify the ports on the eta head to improve flow.

Using a 325i head seems like the easy way out,but 325i came with pistons that have a different head shape when compared to the stock eta item, this involves considerable machine shop work to make effective when using the matching pistons.
Youth is wasted on the young.
