Can't start my car.

I've got a prefacelift M20B20. It's been off the road for about a year. I've been starting it onn and off over that period and it's always been fine with a bump start. It's been up to a bodyshop recently where the sump was damaged and replaced. They started it when it was up there but now that it's back at my house it won't start. I've put fresh fuel in and it turns over fine and sometimes sounds like it's about to fire but then doesn't. I'm not hugely clued up with engines tbh. I took a ht lead off and tried to start but couldn't see a spark in the lead, not sure if that's a good or accurate way to check though?

You're better off removing a spark plug and laying it across the rocker cover (with HT lead connected, of course!) then checking for spark.

If no spark, may be loose engine earth strap, especially if the sump's been replaced.

Cheers, tried that and the spark plugs were caked in shit so I cleaned them up with a wire brush and it fired up . Cheers for the help
