I am looking at a jap import to australia with very low kms and just want to make sure its all good.

No but somewhere almost as council!
Alcudia, Mallorca.
Not my choice might I add!
Mrs picked it for the kids, I prefer Greece and the Greek islands.

Im pretty sure the engine number is a security mater and is not on the spec sheet.
If you get no joy, send me a PM and I will email my man at BMW Motorsport. Cant guarantee he will give out the number.

Whats the deal with having an engine number that matches the AE***** section of the VIN?
Was that a tuner exchange engine deal only?

Two possibilities,
1. HOT Engine.
2. New replacement Block and the correct number was missing/rusty so they used the Chassis Number.

BMW did that until not long after the E30 was launched - they changed the system to a different engine number to the VIN around mid 1983 so long before the M3 arrived.goosiegander wrote:Whats the deal with having an engine number that matches the AE***** section of the VIN?

Interesting, i assume that the engine/chassis no matching on the M3 was down to it being an exchange unit from Schnitzer, or as you say HOT!
Correct, the engine number is not on the spec sheet normally given out by parts guys at BMW dealers, this spec sheet coming from BMW "view data" system.Demlotcrew wrote:Im pretty sure the engine number is a security mater and is not on the spec sheet.

But! BMW's "PUMA" technical information system's spec info gives all the usual data like factory options etc plus more like engine number, gearbox number, build date, Registration date plus more.
You can only access this info if you have an S-gate log in.
I am yet to meet a parts person who uses PUMA.

What would you like to know Harry?
The spec sheet i have clearly states the engine number of my ex car, obtained from the parts dept. (There is a picture of it in one of my older posts)bss325i wrote:Correct, the engine number is not on the spec sheet normally given out by parts guys at BMW dealers, this spec sheet coming from BMW "view data" system.Demlotcrew wrote:Im pretty sure the engine number is a security mater and is not on the spec sheet.

Is this because its an "M" car and not a basic model ?

Thanks for the replies guys, we are onto it.
I now want to know when this car went from the USA to Japan, and why. It was delivered new to BMW North America.
