Just returned from a 5 week tour in Europe with my 318i, went as far as the costa brava & spent most of the time in France. Great trip, only car issue overheating up the mountains to avoid the fires which shut down the french/spanish border for a while. Rad sprang a small leak but just kept an eye on it & topped up. Kept off the motorways and found some amazing driving roads with hardly anyone on them - paradise, then get back to the nuthouse and I'm waiting 5 minutes to pull out of my road.....!

2300 miles covered, 8 tanks of fuel, 41mpg best 34mpg worst

How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

Petrol seemed much of a muchness when considering the strong pound at the moment. They say diesel is cheaper.

& yep I'm already planning other trips, been back to this city I like in Belgium twice already. And other E30 drivers dig it when they see you too, in every country I visited.

If you stay off the toll roads, head down either side of the Massif & allow yourself time to take in sites & not just blast it then you can't go wrong. I've seen a lot of the world but was very impressed by our continental neighbour, always overlooked it.

Oh, and don't buy your warning triangle at Halfords. At 15quid I was reluctant but bought it pessimisticly - 3 euro at the hypermarket....

I'm planning a euro trip for next summer. Don't think I'll get anywhere near your mpg.

What did you do for accommodation? We had planned to slum most days in a tent then Hotels at the weekend for the 3 S's

I'm planning on driving to my parents gaff in France in the E30 at somepoint, that's 700 miles each way and there was talk of going via the nurburgring at one point with a few mates 8)

France is a great country, the further south you go it gets even nicer IMO. However, it is sadly full of the French :(

Well I'm driving this car like an old woman as I'm skint so don't go much above 3000rpm - got 43mpg from Surrey to Gent, Belgium & back and that does for me.

I stayed in campsites - ranging from 8 - 26 euro but had no complaints of anywhere really.

I encountered very few xxxts in 6 weeks or so - I had a crack at the lingo which goes down well, I did avoid big cities however which I would imagine where you find them.

South of France is pukka. I've driven to the Alps on snowboarding trips a few times. The perfect way to start an adventure. I love how you gradually start to see bigger patches of snow the further south you go, then all of a sudden, the Alps appear, a huge wall of white mountains on the horizon..

Yep road trips are my favourite..
