Hi guys, i've managed to round of one of the allen nuts that holds the disk breaks in place! Anyone got any idea's on how i can remove it now? Garages wont do it unless they get to supply the disks themselfs which im not paying £100 for them just to do that.

Some people suggest drilling, but surly that would destroy the thread? The nut sits inside the disk aswell so no way of mullgripping it out, kinda stuck for ideas :( Please help!

Drill the head off carefully, remove disc and wind out the remains of the screw with mole grips.
Kind regards
John

Ok, should i use a super thin drill piece just to break it up or one thats a similar width to the nut? Just want to make sure i dont destroy the thread otherwise that will be bad!

This bolt just steady's the disc whilst you bolt the wheel through the disc to the hub.

What I do is to use Mr Angle Grinder to remove the bolt head, trying to leave a stub for the disc to locate on.The disc is scrap anyway,so damage to it does not matter.

Before you drill the head off, try smashing in a torx bit; the teeth are great at biting in where allen bolts won't.

If that doesn't help, use a dremel to cut in a groove that will allow you to turn the bolt with a screwdriver.

When those don't work, it's time to drill the head off. And don't forget, a good dose of penetrating oil first will help loosen the bolt a bit (just make sure you rub down the discs afterwards.)

Okay disk is off...finaly. Got the wd40, juiced it up, left it for a while. I then tried whacking in a crosshead, which snapped when trying to undo the nut, i dont have any torx parts :(, i dident bother with the screwdriver and dremel method as i'd end up snapping those aswell, the bastad was pretty damn tight in there! I ended up drilling into it to get it off.

Anyway i've learnt my lesson not to do those allen nuts so damn tight! Thanks alot for the help everyone much apreciated!

As has been said, they only need to be nipped up enough to hold the disk in place until the wheel is bolted on, but most people seem to think its the only thing holding the disk on and crank it as tight as they can.

A dab of copper grease on the threads before you put the new one in won't hurt either.
cheers,

harry
