feel sorry for ya mate .... i had an e reg xr2 about 12 yrs ago and that got burnt out the night before my birthday i had only had the car a few days was all insured and i didnt get a penny off the insurance company i was gutted it was a lush car

Well, onwards and upwards, i've just bought a car from retrospeedshop, its in the for sale thread somewhere, picking it up on monday.
If the insurance doesnt pay out then i've got a good base to start from.
If it does pay out then maaaan is it gonna get some cash thrown at it!!!

A 2 door e30 with 8 cylinders, what could be better

I'm a bit of a lurker on here and rarely post, but I had to comment to say sorry to hear that mate!
Try not to plan for the insurance not paying out at all. It had a pre-booked MOT and you're an MOT tester who has got the car ready to pass. Best of luck with it!

Yeah Ad from Beadles mate. Yeah it's only a 320 but it's only covered a genuine 52k so I couldn't really let it pass me by. Gonna keep this one standard though as it is completely original.
You managed to replace yours yet?

Ok I am no expert but I have heard other people say if a car did not have an mot they pay out but reduce the payout by a percentage say 5 or 10%tomislav wrote:Also, spoke to my car insurance today, they're talking to the underwriter because the car didn't have an MOT at the time of the fire.
Is anyone an insurance expert on here? There was one guy but i cant remember his name. Can anyone help?
Car was booled in for its MOT the very next day, and i have proof of that. I'm a fully qualified Audi tech as well as an MOT tester so i know my sh1t, that car was in the best condition its ever been that night
However an mot is only valid for the exact moment the car is presented for an mot as you know.
It could go down the road and tyre get damaged, bulb blow etc so I can not see how they can refuse to payout or reduce the payment myself.
Really pi**ed to hear this mate ! I would be devastated if it was my Baby that burnt up in the garage ... I will tell you something though .. they broke into my house about 3 years ago , we were upstairs sleeping and they pulled the house key's off the radiator cover through the post flap with a coat hanger and cleared out all valuables on the ground floor ..
The old Bill were round in the morning and I made sure I got the contact info from the forensics PC before she left , it was clear what had happened after she explained it but the insurance company treated me like an fuc**** criminal ( AVIV* )the assessor came round and grilled me for almost 3 hours etc ...
Cut a long story short , 8 weeks after the break in they still hadn't paid so I opened a case with the insurance ombudsmen. I had to go over everything again and sent them the forensics PC's contact info .. 3 day's later I got a call from SHI* AVIV* .. they replaced pretty much everything .. totalling almost 18k !!!! the best form of deference is attack !!! I called them every single day for 8 weeks .. if you don't pay your premiums they stitch you up !! if they don't pay out then you need to hammer them Dude !! I threatened to go to the local papers and all !!
PM me if you need some advice , I'm not an expert but got them to pay every last penny they owed me !!
Good Luck !!!

As per the title, HUUUGE update, huge as in good!
Its been just over 7 weeks now since the fire happened and somewhere in the region of 1.5 million phone call, me to broker to me to ins company to me to engineer to salvage yard to me to... you get the picture.
Anyway, i was told i would be contacted this week by the engineer to discuss a valuation for the car, despite the fact i had an agreed valuation of £5000 when i took the policy out.
I rung them again today to ask why i hadnt heard from anyone and they said they'd chase it but i then mentioned the fact of, if i have an agreed valuation why do i need to speak to an engineer about a valuation???
Half an hour later the woman dealing with my claim rung back...
'Hi Mr Henderson, yes the agreed valuation is fine, we'll send you a cheque for 5 grand on Monday!!!!!!!!!!!!'
F*CKIN RESULT! Finally they have pulled it all together.
Let this be a warning to anyone and everyone with an e30 tho, if it is modified in any way, tell them. And if all goes wrong, it gets nicked, burnt, whatever, chase and chase and chase them about it. Keep all reciepts, provide all evidence they ask for and more, then they cant back out.
Now to go make a 5 grand shopping list for the new car
