Hi there,

Was wondering if I could ask some advice, my gear stick has always had a bit of play in it, but after some light off roading it has got worse - it now vibrates against the propshaft in 2nd and 4th, and I can see this going bad quite quickly.

Therefore am thinking this is a good excuse to do the Z3 shift conversion and replace the bushes in the linkage system itself.

I've had a read of the wiki articles concerning replacing the linkage and the z3 short shift conversion - but I'd like to double check what exactly I need to order from BMW.

From the articles, it looks like I need the following -
2?
5
7
12 x2
13
14
15 x2
16
17
18
19
20
23

Do it need part 2? + is there anything else I've missed (apart from the z3 stick itself)

Also, how much time / labour do you reckon a garage would charge for this job?

Thanks

Part 2 is essential, as is part 4 (which you haven't selected). They (and part 14) are the main causes of shifter sloppiness.

However, parts 19 and 20 are now contained as part of 14, and when I fitted my z3 shifter I was unable to get parts 12 onto the linkage; there just wasn't enough space. Considering all those little parts are pennies each it's not a big issue to order them just in case though.
