right now the cars of the rd for winter i believe the engine has gained a slight bottom end knock im not sure what it is yet but will sort it over winter ready for next year
but i think its time for an upgrade maybe newer engine maybe some thing different
as ive been brought up with big v8s yanks hotrods dragsters etc theres always been a part of me thats always wanted a v8 e30 as the first e30 i bought i was planning on doing as i had the engine a 327ci out of a old camaro a gearbox and everything to do the job but unforseen circumstances changed all that and everything got sold
now the chance has come bk round ive always been a fan of a proper v8 not a little 3 litre bmw ones i mean a full blown chevy or ford 5 ltr plus
but ...............
on the other hand there is also the bigger straight 6 swaps eg the s38 s50 or even the s54 now money isnt a problem i know what they cost to buy and do even doing it my self everything will be done my self bearing in mind that my car is already set up for 400bhp as its running now
ive always wanted to do a s50 turbo also
now my prediciment
what do i do
o the v8 will also be a twin turbo jobbie
do i go for some thing like this ....

or some thing like this .............

what do you guys think ??
i know haters are gonna hate so give it what youve got

If I was to V8 an E30 it would be with an LS engine and sticking with NA.
IMO an S50 looks good because of the ITBs, coupled with a carbon airbox and its perfect under the E30 bonnet.
If I was to be turboing a 6cyl, I'd go for a well built M50 turbo. You could take it to 3.0ltr and do a decent build without the cost of buying an S50. Forgetting cost, other than bragging rights to say you have an S50 turbo, is there really that much of an advantage over an M50 turbo? I mean, assuming the same amount of work, will the S50 make that much more power to be worth it??

the only difference with a newer ls v8 is really there efi with built in coil packs plus the ls motors normally start at around the 1500-2000pound mark which is more than a complete s50 you can just as easily build an old type v8 with seperate coil packs with an older efi manifold for half the price of a ls v8 this will be running on standalone toojmc330i wrote:If I was to V8 an E30 it would be with an LS engine and sticking with NA.

yeah you are right a well built m50 will do the job i suppose there will be some bragging rights involved ina s50 i think the only real advantage would be the s50 would make the power easier than an m50 eg less boost and more potential to increase if wanted
as the m50 will have a limit on stock internals is about the 500bhp mark but having said that the s50 will need forged internal anyway so if you were to forge the m50 i suppose they could be on par but this is want i wanted opinions to make my mind up
