im still learning about them, but ... the chassis and bulkhead are vital and have to be good, known rust...however thing is..99% of sellers and ones listed say "chassis and bulkhead solid" no one says chassis isnt great etc, so they are sort of thing you gotta be so careful of, and travelling hundreds of miles to just find that out..is a no go

tdi conversion..just means getting a 200tdi/300tdi engine, and getting someone to put it in, then theres how it all connects up and brackets and mounts etc, as there are different ways and good/not so good ways of doing it from what i gather

also a lot of tdi conversion ones on ebay...say recent tdi conversion and a lot in last 6 months ...which leads you to wonder if thats any reason why its being sold

im learning fast...its an absoloute f**king minefield of a market !!! and to make it worse...not many local ones either, most are up yorkshire etc

look at his auctions, all say chassis and bulkhead solid, they all look good in pics, his neg feedbacks say hes lied about this before

look at his completed auctions...all get bid to good amounts, for old ones ffs, but rarely/NEVER get past his reserve prices, even ones that say cheap and cheerful sold as seen...he wants like 4k for em or god knows what i dont know coz they dont get past reaserve, and he wonders why they dont sell and constantly re listing them , it boggles the mind

digging about on forums...hes been known to sell stolen ones and has issues before and lots of forum talk about him

its f**king hard work thats what it is.. any other car , its all on year, condition etc , say a 318is for arguments sake.. an £800 one, a £1200 one, a £1500 one, a £2k one, a 2.5k one... all varying

defenders...its like they jjust auto think yeah its worth 4k weather a 1986 or a 1992 and they just seem to round them off to the nearest grand

So, having asked multiple genuine questions over a few days on my 318i, 'Rob0751'opens the bidding at the £750 minimum. This remains the price until 5 minutes from the auction closes when 'Rob0751'puts in another bid (£800)...in the closing 2 minutes, a third bid from another Ebayer 'Nikkiscottford2012' of £820 wins the auction.

I soon discovered that 'Nikkiscottford' has a feedback score of 1 ....with this 1 positive feedback being delivered by 'Rob0751'....

Wierd or what hey...

Of course, radio silence from them both in spite of my emails to them.

I then wrote to 'Nikkiscottford2012' this morning asking that if she or Rob would like to get in touch, ring this number...

...to which she responded with 'who rob'...

Sounds familiar .The winner will usually ignore you, then you will contact the next in line who will rock up and find all sorts of issues, both real and imagined and offer you half of what he bid. Many people are so p1ssed at this stage that they just take the derisory offer .

The idea of the high 'winning' bid is to make sure they 'win' it . A very sad slippery practise, and alas quite common and getting more so

last week it was 75 starting bid,had 1 bid on it all week, about 15 hrs before end of it it recieved a 2nd bid and went to 106 , that bid was withdrawn, so i suspected something iffy.... with 1 min left i bid 100 ... knowing id get outbid

so it ended at 101 or whatever it was, it ends and within mins i recieve 2nd chance offer saying i can have it for my £100 plus postage bid as other person was a time waster

i said no thanks, it got re listed for 75, hasnt had any bids and ends in a few hours...im weighing up weather to bid or not, trouble is id rather not,but then id get satisfaction /last laugh winning it if i did, trouble is ive been waiting/looking for the item for ages and it doesnt turn up often so i need to get it really

ive often asked whats the lowest price for cash you would take for an item (im sure others on here have also) and a price a bit lower than the list price has came back, so its not a stupid question

Many people moan about ebay, but if you advertise well and have the buyer options set up correctly you shouldn't have any problems. Its the biggest market for everything which means you will get the biggest money if you got the right auction.

thats the bottom line, car selling is a joke...so many over priced, so many get bid up and re listed, others see that then think theirs is worth it

the most pain in the arse types...is when theres a catr that looks reasonable/what your after, but at say £10 bidding auction...you message saying hello what sort of cash are you looking at for it ? ..and they say im open to offers...and wont just give you a rough ball park figure, so you can see if they are a tit/dreamer or not, and you reply look im not getting in to a bidding with fake bidders time wasters etc, give me a rough price, if its in the same area as where i want to be/think is reasonable, il come look and if all good wel do a cash deal , yet only the say 20% of reasonable people out there will just have a a price in mind that is realistic, and that 80% are total f**kwits who just make it difficult for themselves and you then see it re listed time and time again or bid with fake bidderrs to stupid amounts coz they get friends to do it and think its worth way more than it is

its a waste of time, the biggest culprit ive ever seen of such, are defenders as above, possibly the hardest car market of all for dreamers and dick heads

I always ask the lowest they'd take, (on big items and cars, hoping for a cash deal out of ebay!) - and when i'm selling on ebay, expensive stuff is normally over priced to allow for ebay fees, paypal fees, timewasters, etc!!!

Especially if it's a more expensive item, I've overpriced stuff just to advertise it for the listing fee and if someone emails me a realistic price or asks for it cheaper, I'll happy do it a lot less for cash, outside of ebay!!!
Ebays final value fee is 10%, paypal charge 3.4% + 20p - so if you sell a £300 item, you only actually get about £260 for it!!! And cars cost a lot more to sell!!!

Of course tat, stuff in my way and smaller bits I just put on at 99p no reserve and see how my luck is!!!

For all you people moaning about ebay; just use Gixen.com. Don't put a single bid in through the website, because you WILL get outbid by someone else.

And remember, don't bid round numbers. Bid 101.67 instead of 100.

If you put your bid in three days before the auction ends, you're giving the seller time to prepare his tricks, and to use his shill account to sniff out what your highest bid was.

I have bought and sold several cars on Ebay along with hundreds of other items - never had a problem with a car but some of the smaller items just become a chore. The truly irritating ones are the item has not arrived w*****s

I only post on Saturdays now and my postage costs are brutal but actually reflect the cost of packing and current royal mail pricing with signed for delivery
