I won't sell an SI board for less than fifty quid. Sod selling them for a tenner - I'm now buying these up. See an E30 in the frag yard = cluster out and check the date on the SI board, and also for the orange sticker.

If you describing the part to the dealer and not giving them the part number be sure they arent looking at tyhe wrong part. I have paid what seems like a crazy price for parts before only to have it arrive and it be wrong and the part i needed is actually a reasonable price

It's called market economy.

At least we can get the bits via the dealer,bet if you wandered into your local Ford dealer and asked for arch liners or instument cluster bits for an Escort of similar age they would know that you were taking the pee pee.

The original stock held by Munich is now being replaced as they see demand,we cannot expect to pay '80's prices for re-manufactured parts that are being made in limited quantites.
At least BMW are interested enough to re-manufacture...

This is very true.. BMW are superb for part support on older models! Expensive or not, you can still get it! 8)

My man at the stealers says that E30 parts prices are currently near the bottom of what he expects to be a steep price increase curve.

I'm a big fan of make do and mend - the car business has got itself into a situation where some mechanics are actually fitters and repairing parts is not on the agenda.

In that case, they'll just sell less. £400 for a 325i auto rad - who actually pays that?
Regarding the mechanics/fitters comment, main dealer chaps don't have the time to repair anything. I had the auto choke steel pipe snap off an early M20 thermostat housing a couple of months back - it was rusty and fragile and really, it needed a new housing. Not at £70 and three days delivery though. I spent a couple of hours drilling it out, making a new steel stub and pressing it in. At dealer rates, that's £200.

They are generally all fitterz at main dealers, do they even have welders at the dealers anymore?

They did at the Alfa garage I did my apprenticeship at! Gas and Mig wire were in constant demand. I've heard a couple of horrendous main dealer rip offs recently - well, one attempted rip off and a full blown 'we've had you'. The successful score was £4000 for a 530d turbo and ECU 'because you cannot clear the fault codes'. :eek:

Be welding the Alfa's up on the PDI,I expect.....

Some-one was telling me a very funny story involving a 'fitterz' and an M20 the other day,the fitterz had installed the bearing shells the wrong way round,the poor car managed 60 miles before siezing solid!

Alfas lasted until the second MOT before the torch was lit. They're heading back that was as well - seem some 54 plate cars looking very ropey underneath.

One of the rustiest cars ive seen for a while was a mazda 6, both wings were through and the floor/sills were not far off either

Us main dealer "fitterz" :roll: tend not to repair things because on most modern turds you cant buy bits to repair "sealed" units.

There is also a heavy bias toward fault diagnosis a lot of which is electrical.

Modern BMW's are incredibly complex and you can forget DIY tinkering.

Back on topic, i bought a clutch master from BMW for my E30 in 2008 and it was £70.

I bought one for a customer a few weeks ago and it was £140! :eek:

E30 clutch masters are about 30 quid for a decent aftermarket? E28 ones (bulkhead mounted) are £200 with no cheap aftermarket alternative.

I dont trust aftermarket ones, well the ones from ECP any way. I've had them leak prematurely on more than one occasion.

. Yep, they're bad news. Mazda dealers are waxoyling cars left right and centre - might even be FOC on recent stuff.

If enough people ask for this,it will be re-manufactured,like brake back plates have been.

Myself,I filled the void with black silicone,this keeps the water out as there is no escape path,hence rusty tailgates...

bmwfans lists and e30 m3 bootlid at the bargain price of 34607.00 euros, while the evo2 and evo3 lids are even better value at 42405.00 euros.

so, if you have an accident in your m3, better make sure it doesnt break the bootlid or it's going to write the car off unless it's an ultra mint never driven sport evo :mad:

i would have thought so, but odd that theyre both way out, unless they had a trainee on who added a couple of extra zeros. would be interested to know what the actual price is.

i seem to remember about 10 years ago they (the standard version anyway) was less than £100!

Front shock absorbers for 51mm struts for my 325i............

£400 +VAT !! EACH!!!!

Ridiculous when one can get a pair of Bilstein B4s for £150!

I ended up swapping the front struts for a good secondhand pair which made sense as one of the wheel bearings was shot.

I was quoted £175+ VAT for MSport front shocks for my 330d touring about two years ago - dread the think what they'd be now.
