Thats the seal that goes over this guy

I've most/all parts got to refurb the selector but I don;t think I have that part, is it worth getting the whole thing or just the seal?

---edit---

No 14 below:

Is it worth changing 19 & 20 also? - need to check but may already have them ordered.

No, it's on that pic. The seal you need sits inside the gearbox, and needs to be picked out with a tiny flat screwdriver.

The thing you're thinking of is just a clip to hold the dowel pin inside the selector bush.

EDIT: The new version of number 14 will include 19 and 20 as standard; I made that mistake two months ago.

Just to clarify then, no 14 is the same item as what you have circled as the cause of the leak?

No, not at all. The part you need is not on the diagram you posted.

Part you need is no 16 on here:

Ok, thanks Richard, I'll order no 16 then.

From the shifter linkage image, does 14 wear out and need replacing?

Yes!

Along with 2,3,7,11 and all the assoiated clips and washers.A Z3 1.9 version of 6 will also help to transform the gearshift quality.

Expect to hand your local stealer at least £75 for the lot

Yeah, apparently the plastic inner ring of 14 wears out; the part that the shifter rod slips in to, leading to gear slop.

Basically the parts you replace in the shifter linkage for tight shifting are 14, 4 and 2; all the expensive bits.

I've all except 14 and 4, I'll price them up and maybe see how I get on without no4 as it looks easiest to replace at a later date :p
