I never want to "tempt fate" but have always believed in being prepared for the worst,
I've just had my renewal from Direct Line, even with 4 years "No Call Out Discount" it's £335 (that's "Personal Cover" for me & SWMBO,)
I'm just starting to look around but all seem to decline cars over 10 or 15 years old on European Cover, (I'd still like to take mine over at some stage,)
Anyone know of any companies that do a sensible rate yet include our age cars ??

Nigel if you were insured with Pete Best breakdown cover is free with their classic car policy inc europe .

the classic car policy does not use your no claims bonus so you can continue to build that up with your daily car policy .

my 318is was £180 per year fully comp with breakdown recovery and much more which was nice.Even now with all my mods declared but with another company it's only £280 :D

I had this problem last year. In the end I went with Autonational (£66) for cover in this country and then paid for an additional policy from whoever was the cheapest just for the time when I went abroad. An individual policy for a trip abroad in a car as old as an e30 is pricey, I think if was about £70 for a week, but it worked out cheaper for me that way. It depends how often you take your e30 abroad.

You could also look at the cashback sites (quidco, etc) as they sometimes have some good deals on cover from the large companies, I recently saw that you can get £85 cashback on RAC cover over £181 and something similar from the AA. Although I don't know if these include euro cover or cars as old as e30s. Could be worth a look though.

First Call.

I had a similar issue last year when wanting to do a Euro road trip, none of the online companies would cover the E30 on account of its age. AA would have extended my cover but for a crazy additional fee (and that was only for a month).

Randomly found First Call and their fee was very reasonable (cheaper than the AA and for a whole year). Can't comment on how good their service is because luckily the car never broke down.

Worth a look though.

I have full (minus parts cover) personal cover with The AA for £60...if you go via the likes of Quidco you can usually get the premiums for half price. Nearly £400 is a joke! When my cover is up I'll be changing to RAC via quidco and will hopefully be able to get the same sort of deal as I have with The AA. :)

Anyone come across / used "THe Green Insurance Company" ??
They offer a very good rate on both Quidco & the usual comparitor sites but I've not heard of them,
(Mind you I haven't heard of some of the others either !!)

Cabbie is with Peter Best on an agreed value limited miles policy.

European cover is avalable from them for(I think)£35,but it's limited.
We had to claim on it two or three summer's back

Options were;
1 Hire car for the remainder of the trip(dump it at port of exit)
2 Re-patriate all members of the party
3 Re-patriate the car

Obviously I elected option three!
Cost by rail from central Frog to Lincoln for two was about £500

I then, when home, asked when I would see my broken car...about two weeks if you are lucky,sir...

I made enquires about hiring a trailer and a DiY recovery and DAS informed me that the quote for getting my car home from their chosen agent was £1004,if I could do it cheaper, all I had to do was furnish receipts.I billed 'em £750 and they coughed without batting an eye....
