probably stands me at 3k so far. just spent £250 on the m3 front suspention bits as you see. but lucky me got £500-£600 worth of paint and laquer for free. keeps the budget down.
i havent a clue what you guys are on about with bushes and all that. but i asked the breaker and they tell me this lot came off a 1995 3.0 m3. is there anything i need to know at this point?
and whats dp?
cheers guys

if you click on the E30 Wiki "button" at the top of the page, then "All Wiki Pages" you will see "5 lug conversion" :

cheers mate, just had a read, what do i use with the drop links, e30 or e36? and do i use e30 sub frame and anti-roll bar? anyone know?
rav asked if the suspension parts were from an m3 evo, i said it was hard to say, but i could see that the bushes and disks weren't correct for an m3 evo
dp was an edit as my post had appeared twice and it wouldnt let me delete one of them
from the wikki...
you then use these arms with an eccentric bush on an e30 to push the wheel forwards even further so it sits in the arch properly.
by all means try it, but i think you'll have to find some evo arms and spindles.

i don't think the bits youve bought will work properly. the e36 m3 evo (3.2) had different lower arms which pushed the outer balljoint forwards and out, giving more castor than earlier m3s, whilst using a standard concentric bush. This is a very specific set of parts. You MUST use 96+ E36 M3 control arms

hmmm, got me worried now. has anyone here done the conversion useing non evo parts? or have i just wasted £250
I had a go at using non evo bits, it did not work!!
As Harry says you need e36 m3 evo hubs and bottom arms, and e36 m3 3.0l tca bushes. you will also need adjustable top mounts if you want the camber back to an acceptable spec. The legs and brakes you have will work but you will need to swap the springs for ones from a evo or a e30.
Great looking project by the way

nice one, yeah sorta got an update but its all very dull as iv been flatting the primer. spent from 11am until 8pm and all i managed to do was the boot lid, bonnet, 1 wing and door. and my arm are killing me. such a pain in the assss. but the key to a good paintjob is in the prep. so im told anyways, iv got 2-3 pics or my patchy looking primer wich il upload shortly this evening. plan to have the flatting finished tomorow so i can actualy spray the car next weekend (fingers crossed). so some interesting updates next weekend peeps.... just bare with for now. it will either look pretty good or complete sh** lol. im aiming forpretty good though. obviously

NEWS FLASH............. iv made a start on the paint. still need to do the bonnet doors and boot but the bulk has been base coated and clear coated and is drying as we speak. had a small accident with the air line as it touched the lacquor on o/s/r quater,
and there are a few imperfections here n there but seeing as it was sprayed in my garage and done by my amatuer self then im happy with the result, just needs a touch up on the scuff and a good mop!. let me know your thoughts....

as for the other bits that need painting, il do them tomorow and get some pictures...

thanks all, yeah im more than chuffed, impressed myself and feeling a bit smug to be hounest because never thought id pull this off. i was fearing the worst, all be it i did have a cluster with the oil drops under the paint as shown in pics and the air line scuff on the side, im going to fix them today. cant wait to open the garage today and see how its dried. knowing my luck its reacted and looks like a snake sheedding its skin lol probably be a car shaped skin on the floor. just want to get the last bits painted today then i can move on. i got my replacement m3 evo wishbones and hubs turn up yesterday so now have a complete 5 stud conversion to do soon but dont have any wheels big enough to clear the brakes at the mo so that will have to wait for now, plus i want to clean and paint the bits first.

no chance lol, i dont believe in doing all this work only to not enjoy driving on the wrong side of the car lol. my arguement is there were lhd's made. not many at all but still exist
iv just painted the remainder panels today, there hanging to dry in garage. il get pictures up tomoz. by the way, word of warning, NEVER let your missus near a newly painted car and think she can remove a hair in the paint with her nails
so now my bumper need re-painting.

Awesome thread this
lots of hard work going on to achieve the end goal, I love how your tackling everything here with minimal tools and learning along the way..
the zone needs more build threads like this, great work

thank you, yeah i dont think the compressor had chance to stop once started. only just had the bol**cs to keep the air up. to be fair, if you had sent your car off to get painted and it came back like this then youd demand your money back lol but cuz iv done my own car in a garage and paint job and paint cost me nothing. but with a good mop and polish and a touch up spray on the air line fook up then should be as good as im going to get here lol. once the door boot n bonnet have hardend il risk fitting them to the car as the paint is still too soft at the moment, not the warmest weather to help dry it.
