Hi Guys,

Further to my post:

http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... highlight=

I have now checked all the power connections with a multimeter.

The connections tested are as follows and each one gave me a variance on the multimeter reading.

1. The little raised wire connector on the left hand side of the storage compartment.

In the boot, there are the following connectors. All seem to be getting power:

Horseshoe motor:

Triple connection:

Double connection:

I then reconnected the motors as per the instructions in the wiki and from all you helpful guys, and it still fails to operate.

I feel I am nearly there, but need to check a couple of other things. The obvious one is power to the operating switch on the dash. How is this removed or accessed?

The final one is the control unit itself. Is it a simple case of unscrewing this from it's locating position and testing for power?

Any other areas or ideas to look at would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance! :D

Hello Matey!

Yes, that sounds a bit like me too. To be honest, I can't see any point on the front of the switch where I could insert a flat headed screwdriver to prise in out. The radio out route sounds good I'll take a look at that.

Thank you. Any ideas on the control unit? What I'm trying to establish is whether power to all the connections shown indicates the problem lies with the control unit.

Razor blade or Stanley knife blade down the side of the switch to take it out without damage.

Tried Stanley blade, which worked a treat. Tested the switch and input wires. I managed to get a reading so assume the switch works and it's gettin power.
:?

Really don't know
What to try next.....

Wiring diagrams just freak me
Out. However, I would presume if the switch is getting power then all the
Other leads should be supplied

I go through the motor synch process, try the
Switch and nothing! Quite annoying now.

Do you know whether the control unit feeds out to the motors. The
Wires going into it don't look like they do, but I could be wrong.

Thanks again :D

I've got a feeling the problem may lie with the control unit. I has hoped to avoid removing this but looks like I'm going to have to check it out

Thanks for your help :D

*cough*. I'm going to retest the power to the
Leads as I've been told I didn't do it correctly...... I hope this highlights something more tangible so that I can try to
Find a solution and make the roof work again

I'll keep you posted. :D

UPDATE:

Well, it was the 30th yesterday, and the car has been sorned, so I decided to put it away for the winter. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to get the time to have a good look at the roof problem, but decided I had half an hour and tested off the connectors and power supply....the main operating switch on the dash definitely worked!

I next pushed open the hood (only the first step of releasing it and pushing a back slightly) and then pressed the opening button. To my surprise, this resulted in a wirring(?) noise from the main motor.

I then reconnected both the motors (by moving the rear part of the hood up and down) to synch things, and both slotted in. When I hit the open button the rear roof hoop raised itself to the correct position, then the next sequence of raising the horse-shoe started.......and stopped at the following position.

Image

I didn't want to push it so stopped going any further. It closes fine from this point though.

Any suggestions, guys? Could the rods be catching, or has running the motor moved the opening/closing sequence on so that I need to disconnect and wind things back, as it were to the correct starting point?

I will take the cover off the bars and see if anything mechanical is stopping the horse shoe going up more than the pic shows.

I can't tell you how pleasing this little amount of progress has made me! If the weather improves, I may consider re-taxing it!

:D
