Trying to trace the build factory of my old E30
Moderator: martauto
I am trying to trace which factory my former car (G953RMY) was built in, i have a feeling that all the facelift 4 door rhd 325`s will have come out of the same plant, i presume Regensburg.
I was going to use the vin number to also check up on what extras had been fitted to the car and a production date but that is looking unlikely now unless BMW still hold some records of it.
Sadly the car no longer exists so i wondered if anyone with a 88-91 4 door 325 can tell me part of the Vin.
On the last 7 letters/numbers its just the first 4 i am after, i dont want your exact vin just some in same block,
AB12543 is a 4 door lhd 316 built in Munich in 4/89.
So for me AB12xxx would be enough for me to do some research.
You can also do your own vin here.

Thanks
Jon

WBA is the first 3 letters and stands for the company that built it, BMW Munich, and i believe all German built cars start with that. Normally the factory code is a letter so i would have to do some more research.I have read somewhere that the number can also represent the position in the alphabet, but 2 would be B which is the code for Dingolfling which as far as i`m aware did not make any 3 series cars.bmw_325i wrote:2795025 is for my 10/87 RHD facelift sedan.
Came out of the Munich factory according to the first 3 letters (WBA) - is that Regensburg?
ThanksCurr946 wrote:if you call your local bmw dealer with the reg they me be able to help its still on the dvla site but has been unlicensed since 2003
I will pop into my local BMW dealer tomorrow, no records for it on the police database.
Normally the last field gives you the factory, Yours doesnt.bmw_325i wrote:2795025 is for my 10/87 RHD facelift sedan.

A lot of the E30 M3`s also had factory codes of 2, and they were also built in Munich, with the cabbbys built at the satilite factory at Garching.
I would say that if its an E30 its been built in Munich unless the last 7 letter`s of the vin starts with an E.

How are you getting access to the police database?47423 wrote:ThanksCurr946 wrote:if you call your local bmw dealer with the reg they me be able to help its still on the dvla site but has been unlicensed since 2003![]()

Surprisingly, my Touring (24/05/1989) has an "E" VIN number - EB02070, so it's not a Dingolfer

A,F and K are Munich. Although all the E30`s are A only out of them that ive found so far.Andyboy wrote:AB is Munich. It's the first letter that matters. Munich is A, F and R. Regensburg is E, J and P, Dingolfing is B, C, D and G.
Your 325i was built around 25/4/1989. Most (if not all) Tourings were built at Dingolfing.
All the touring are built at Regensburg that ive found so far.
Mine was a saloon, it depends if it was a stock model or made to order for the production date.
So far it appears that up to 12/88, Munich was using the factory code 2, then it changed to letters from 89.
Still working on the codes, stops me getting bored lol.

Touring sat on the drive is EA, so i assume that's Reagansburg but couldn't tell you why its a 2door vin.

Its a Regensburg car for sure, but the 2nd letter may not be as logical as i put down, i just played around with the numbers and that seemed to be the patten.HairyScreech wrote:Touring sat on the drive is EA, so i assume that's Reagansburg but couldn't tell you why its a 2door vin.

EA7xxxx are the rhd touring.
EA0/2xxxx are lhd 2 door.
EA1xxxx are E36.
I am presuming the 31 is the pre 89 version, i had been trying to find a pre 89 Regensburg machine. How old is the 316 on a 98? thats another ive not found yet. I shall have another search after the dog walk.sean_318i wrote:I've got two tourings that start with 31 two with ea and a 316 with 98. Is 31 Regensburg too pre 1989.
Thanks
I`ll see if i can research that later tomorrow.sean_318i wrote:The 316 is a D reg so I think 1986
What i have found is a couple of blocks of E30`s in the 31xxxxx series, all of the other cars in the 3xxxxxx series i have found have been series 5/7 models from Dingolfling. I have found a clip of info on the net saying that Ding. has made small batches of 3 series but doesnt state which variant. I am very secptical about it as i would be a huge cost to tool a plant up for a small over run of models. Having said that the 31xxxxx vin is confusing. The touring was not even production built till 3/88, so it would be a big surprise if they set the tooling up only to move it in a few short months.
Off to bed with my BMW porn to see if it has any answers!!! Night.

You need to speak to Trevor B7 , in between being miserable and EP90ing his trunnions he is compiling a spreadsheet of all quattroportes past and present. This information will undoubtably become an invaluable and indespensible reference as moredoor values soar in the near future

Being Germans they are bound to have a method of working it!!! lol
Cant find reference to Ding making any 3 series cars, what i did find out is that Regensburg received shells from Munich for quite a while. Could this be the reason we have 31xxxxx codes for some cars before changing to Exxxxxx on the start of pressing their own shells.
I will call in to my local BMW dealer on the way home and see if he will tell me the vin and options list of G953RMY, he made not give me the info as im no longer the owner but i`ll try.
G953RMY is Vin AF56085.
Model code 1412, right hand drive 4 door 325i manual, Alpine White 11 218 with anthracite cloth 269, built in Munich 23rd January 1990.
It was fitted with power steering, dechrome shadowline trim, green tint glass, electric sunroof and front windows, rear armrest. A poverty spec four door - I doubt the breakers would have been fighting over that!

LOL, That`s maybe how it left the factory! But its not how it was when i bought it!! lol. I will have to sign up to a photo host and stick a couple of pics upAndyboy wrote:G953RMY is Vin AF56085.

Thanks Andy, i have also just come back from Sandal BMW where they printed me out the full history of it. Its interesting that you have the build date as it just states Jan 90(wk04) on this printout.
The extra`s were the bit i was really interested in as it had been lowered and fitted with a front and rear spoiler set and a set of Wolfrace wheels and had an alarm/immobilizer fitted.
I had also always assumed that it had been fitted with a limited slip diff as it had no traction issues even in the snow, the bugger was that low it was like a snowplough!!!
I knew the front spoiler was fake as i replaced it once it was forever getting caught on bumps, even had to saw the bottom lip off it once as it was a nightmare. the rear spoiler was better quality and i always wondered if it was a factory one.
I knew it didnt have a cat, and option 200 is delete Cat.
Another interesting option is 850 - Additional Fuel, was that a larger fuel tank as surely extra fuel in the tank would be a dealer issue not a factory one!!!.
Many thanks guys for all your help, i am temped to fire off an email to BMW to see if i can get to the bottom of Factory code numbers on pre 89 cars!.
I see your from Yorkshire Andy, im a stones throw off Jn41, and you never know after my hols i might well be looking for another poverty spec 4 door 325
i will sort out some photos this afternoon.
Once again thanks to all
I have done some more research into Dingolfing making 3 series cars and found this.
http://www.bmw-werk-dingolfing.de/dingo ... index.html
(Its in the history section and listed in previous cars built)
I have tried to track down the build factorys of the pre 89 cars but is very differcult to make heads and tails out of it.
It seems that Munich built most if not all of the post 89 UK spec 325i 2/4 saloons.
1412 325/4 RHD UK
2795001 (9/87) -2795519 (1/89)
AF54000 (1/89) - AF56801 (11/90)
1112 325/2 RHD UK
Not found the 87-88 cars.
AE52000 (1/89) - AE55192 (8-90)
I am calling it a day on trying to find anymore, my interest was the 325 2/4 saloons so i have found most of them.
If anyone has a 325 saloon thats not in the above lists, please feel free to PM me and it will help complete the UK 325 list.
Thanks to all thats helped provide numbers.
