50 quids worth of plastic, 20 minutes with a craft knife and 23p in electricity to finish it off with a heat gun that's a joke
:chainsaw: £600 is a very good price to have a car vinyl wrapped. It could cost you that in the materials alone.

Each to the own though
I agree! The more agressive looking the car, the better. A Focus RS can pull it off, yet on a Ghia it would look less agressive than with factory finish. The utillitarian look needs to be contrasted with quality detailing, rims, body kit to give clues that there is quality underneath, a rough diamond.

If it was mine, I would put on smoked headlights and repeaters, have the wheel badges black, ebay special carbon fibre (effect?) roundels, lose the 325 badge (the twin pipes is all anyone needs to know) and fit an iS splitter to toughen the front end up, probably a subtle window tint.

I do think it seems a cheap alternative to new paint, and it looks good side on and has a stance to make it work if the details where a bit more moody too... in my opinion.

I think it looks great, is this technique different to plasti dip or is it much the same thing? How does it feel to touch? I am interested in this for my e46

Thanks :P

i still don't get it.

must be the flat black thing, as it's the default choice for a sheddy old car. needs to be something fairly new to pull it off without looking like a shed.

and i still maintain i could get a similar result from cars for a fraction of the price.

having watched a few videos i'm quite impressed with the product, although i'm not convinced about how long it will last as it's obviously pretty easy to roll off by rubbing with your fingers, although i suppose this built in rubberyness is quite good at resisting stone chips.

if the diy kits were availiable over here for reasonable money i could be very tempted as a 'just for the heck of it' thing, but would have to be in more unusual colours, like matt white, or a colour similar to the frozen edition e90 m3s. something which doesnt just look like rattlecan matt black anyway.
cheers,

harry

From what I've seen there's several basic colours (black, white, red, blue etc). I've looked around and you can build their kit for about £250, just depends how much you want to spend on a spray gun.

i assume it can be applied with a normal spray gun and compressor too.

tbh, a matt effect doesnt need wonderfull spraying, you can build up the coats very gradually to get an even finish.

It's sprayed on the car end when done proper it will give a better finnish than foil.

Nice attention to H&S there - no mask when spraying! 8O

I wonder if it peels off that easily from the bodywork, and how durable it is - does it crack or shrink/stretch with sunlight, etc.?

the webiste for the actual paint says to use a primer, but for these car 'wrap' applications you just spray direct as you want it to cling rather than actually stick to the vehicle.

i do wonder how long it's been tested on vehicles used outside of the maufacturers instructions?
cheers,

harry

A lot of questions and opinions, have a look at the website, www.liquid-wrap-your-ride.co.uk otherwise just give the company a call and i'm sure he'll have the answers if the website doesn't. Cheers all..

Ah so your car is actually Plastidip, £600 is a fair price then as the paint and thinners is nearly half that by themselves so quite cheap as it's easily a full day's labour.
