Are m50 and m52 crank sensors the same?
I know the plug is different but is the function and output the same?

doh, thats what i get for doing two things at once.

CAM sensor, not crank sensor.

good thinking on the auto data, might be in the tech manuals i have as well.

i have a plastic cam sensor from an m52 kicking about so i don't want to buy another one if i can use that.

Ok from looking auto data is unreliable and there is conflicting info out there.

my dme is the 3.3.1 for a non ews m50tu (single vanos)
now the crank senor is a normal VR one which is fine to use an e30 one for.
However i am short a cam sensor and happen to have an m52 one.
The cam sensor for the m50tu is hall effect which i am led to believe is for m50tu engines and newer as the m50nv is VR.

Is the m52 sensor still a conventional hall effect? if so it should be fine to use.
