Some people like the four pot and I've had a few miles in an IS and 318. It does *sound* a little more pokey as most high revving engines do. However you can always hear a straight 6 BMW engine from a street or two away, a fantastic whine to it regardless of capacity.

in standard form either will get there ass handed to them in a straight line and corners by newer cars. But they are more fun to drive and with a few tweaks are great to drive...BEERBOY123 wrote:Do me a favour! They are nothing of the sort!reggid wrote:both are shit in standard form
i saw an old article where a 325i Sport was 0.4sec slower than the M3 in a 40sec lap, it is not much considering the hype......make up your own mind about how the 318is with 60bhp less would do
E30 325is with M20B31

Amusingly i have seen an E30 m3 fail to keep up with a sport ka so really the whole thread is invalid.

All this talk of the zones' decline of late. Well its all bs, the same old discussions are still being played out regularly since I joined in 2005.
Ive driven 318i, 318is, 320i, and 325i and they are all special and all have their own distinctive feel. Each one feels nice after you have driven another for a long time but I still choose the 325i

Lets face it either will do because they are only going to be pulled out in favour of a 2.8 or an m5x.

the "drive" that really did it for me, hadnt had the 325i long, maybe 2 weeks, hadnt really given it a proper flat out drive, the fella flew down from scotland to buy my is,picked him up from airport, looked it over etc etc, did the deal...he said right i need to go to a bank ?skipunda wrote:Some people like the four pot and I've had a few miles in an IS and 318. And the 320i is the M3's unclepolsta wrote:pukar wrote:i can't believe that it took 16 posts before that old chestnut "baby M3" came out![]()

:if the 318is is the baby m3, is the SE "the daddy M3"
It is capable of 120 easy, took a bit of pushing but got it to 130, it's not nonsense, what speed would you consider a 316i to be capable of, at about 90-100 it feels very torquey and pulls all the way to 120,, mice had my 1.2 zetec fiesta at 100 that was with low oil!Andyboy wrote:Beat me to it! The m40 had just been complete serviced, new head, coil, filters, leads, pump, plugs the lot!
It also had a 325 radiator in it because I got. Sent the wrong one and never got around to changing it so that could be a contributing factor to the blistering performance
